Australian pop maestros, Empire of the Sun, are back. 5 years after We Are the People, that timeless slice of pop perfection, they return with Alive, a flamboyant slice of positivity. Check out the song and the video – probably a great way to kick start your week
Actor and director genius, and star of the HBO series Steve Buscemi, is in cahoots with New York’s indie poppers, Vampire Weekend. The collaboration produces a series hilarious promotional videos for the band, produced by Buscemi, and targeting mainly him as an out of touch character.
The second video in the series places the band in the subway, and later, playing bowling together. Take a look.. and if you’re here only for the music, here’s Dinae Younge, a teaser from Vampire Weekend’s forthcoming album.
Jack White, formerly one- half of Rock n’Roll revival duo White Stripes, is launching his new project and his first proper solo album, which is scheduled for April 2012.
Judging by the sound of the first two songs to be leaked from the album, White’s sound is stripped from electricity and noise. It looks like he approached his songwriting from a more traditional point of view of: country, blue-grass and blues.
The beginning of the year is traditionally slow in terms of new releases and new music. This gives us time to have a look at the back catalogue and remember great music from the past. Since some short- sighted people expect the world to end at 2012, we thought this would be a good opportunity to use this classic cut from R.E.M and tell them – no problem, bring it on!
By the way, last year, R.E.M declared that they were calling it a day, so it’s always a good thing to get yourself acquainted with one of the best bands ever in the history of music… download their back catalogue on iMesh
French duo, Air, are back with another project – soundtrack for a classic 1901 film (!) ’Le Voyage dans la Lune‘ (the Trip to the Moon). Seems only apt, as their first album was called Moon Safari, don’t you agree?
Anyway, here’s a first glimpse into the album, a beautiful track which features the vocals of Victoria Legrand (Beach House).
Arcade Fire are one of the most successful indie bands out there and we especially love their mind boggling videos, always on the cutting edge of technology and design.
Their latest video project is for The Sprawl. You can watch the standard version here, or head to the official site and watch the interactive version.

Trent Reznor is not just an indie super hero, as the leader of Nine Inch Nails. He’s also not just a pioneer in the use of internet and social marketing to promote his music and communicating with his fan base. He is also an in demand soundtrack composer.
Following his latest succes as the soundtrack composer for The Social Network, he has now done the music for the remake of The Girl with Dragon Tattoo.
Here’s a cover version of Led Zeppelin’s Immigrant Song featuring Karen O from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
It’s hard to ignore the Christmas vibe around, so here’s a little snowflake for you – She & Him indie super duo, which features Zooey Deschanel & M. Ward, performing a track from their Christmas album: A Very She & Him Christmas, on Ellen.
Bon Iver, former Kanye West collaborator, has just released this new video clip for his most controversial track yet, Beth/Rest. The track is lifted from his latest album, one of 2011 highlights without a doubt. On this track he sounds mostly like a forgotten Peter Gabriel track from his mid 80′s phase. What’s your opinion, do you like this minimalistic 80′s throwback?
Their latest album, Brothers, made the Black Keys somewhat of superstars. With the bar of expectations rising for the follow up, the duo released this first song: an energetic blues rock work out, with a simple yet effective video.
Oh, and the production, as always, is by the one and only Dangermouse.
