Hungry like the Wolf

Alabama’s own, Yelawolf, seems to be everywhere these days.  It’s therefore surprising that he is now releasing Radioactive- his first proper album on a major label.  The Video for the song is inspired by Ubisoft’s Driver San Francisco video game.  The music video was shot at several of San Francisco’s landmark locations.

Together Forever

Canadian hard rockers, Nickelback, are about to drop their new album Here and Now.  As the title of the album may suggest, the lead single When We Stand Together is all about the state of the world and how we should come together to overcome any obstacles. Or something.

Anyway, if you like watching bands playing on top of the mountains with a helicopter shooting them in wide rotating angles, this is the video for you!

Back in Black

It unbelievable, but over 40 years after this song was created, the pioneers of heavy metal and hard rock, Black Sabbath are reuniting their original line up, Ozzy Osborne included… There are even talks of a new studio album, produced by Rick Rubin. We guess we will have to wait and see on this one though…

Hyper Lynch

David Lynch is well known for his film work:  from the seminal Blue Velvet and Wild at Heart, through Lost Highway and Mulholland Drive, and of course to the legendary TV series Twin Peaks.  Music was always an important aspect in Lynch’s work, and he was very involved in the soundtracks, but it still comes as a surprise that the film director has decided to release a solo album only now, way into his 62nd year (!).

His album, which also features Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, has all the typical Lynch signatures: It’s dark and twisted, mysterious, and marries tradition to a futuristic vision.

Here’s the first single of the album, the untypical poppy Good Day Today.

The Lioness, always in our hearts

It was only a matter of time until we started hearing leftovers from Amy Winhouse’s short legacy.  Next month, her record company will release an album of never heard before gems, titled Lioness: Hidden Treasures.

This is the first track off the album and it features the mighty Nas, contributing a posthumous rap verse.

He ain’t Heavy, he’s our brother

Posted by DJ • November 15, 2011 at 03:08 PM

We were sad to learn that rapper and entertainer Heavy D passed away last week, at the young (way too young!) age of 44.

Heavy D, born  as Dwight Arrington Myers in 1967, had a short run of successful hits at the beginning of the 90′s, but his work is still remembered and cherished today.

Rest in peace, D.

The brother who still bothers

Posted by DJ • November 14, 2011 at 10:07 AM

Oasis were one of rock’s music greatest bands.  They blazed the charts of the 90′s and left behind a trail of anthems.  The driving force of the band were the Gallagher brothers: Liam – the pretty boy who was also the singer, and Noel- the more introverted one who played guitar and actually wrote the songs.

As brothers sometimes do, they kept fighting and bickering, which eventually lead them to falling out. At least for the time being.  To make a long story short, here’s a track from Noel’s solo album. It sounds a lot like a certain band from the 90′s, but without the charismatic voice of the singer.

Welcome back, Noel!

Bonfire night

Donald Glover seems to have it all – he’s one of the stars of NBC’s wild Community, a former writer for 30 Rock and The Daily Show, and as if this is not enough, he’s also making waves as Childish Gambino – the thinking man’s Drake, if you’d like.

After a series of internet-only releases and mixtapes, he is about to release a proper album, Camp, and Bonfire is a proper single, with a scary video and all.

Watch it, and try not to get too jealous of Glover!

Introducing: Lana Del Rey

Posted by DJ • November 10, 2011 at 09:23 AM

One of the most hyped artists of recent months, Lana Del Rey, is all star quality.  Good looking in a jaw-dropping kind of way, and she’s also got a deep, warm voice that is slightly rough around the edges, which makes her stand out in this age of information meltdown.

Video Games is her biggest hit so far, so check it out and watch this space.
