2012, Da One for me

Posted by DJ • December 31, 2011 at 02:38 PM

One of the strongest cuts from Rihanna’s latest album has got its own video now. You Da One has sort of a digital reggae skank to it and a kooky chorus, and we hope to hear it at New Year’s Eve parties tonight…

Happy New Year iMesh friends!

Chasing Irish cars

There’s a long tradition of successful Irish rock bands, and it’s enough to mention the 4 lads of U2 as a prime example. Snow Patrol may haven’t achieved the same level of success, but let’s face it, U2 are a hard act to follow anyway…

Their sixth studio album, Fallen Empires, was released in Europe last month, and is coming out in the U.S. in a couple of weeks.  Here’s the album’s title track as a small taster.

Don’t let her get away

Britney, Adele, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Nicky Minaj, Mary J Blige, Taylor Swift… the pop game today is all about the ladies. The top cat is of course Katy Perry who had an amazing year, closing it off with a guest slot on SNL last week. Respect.

Here’s the latest video from Katy, The One that Got Away.

The unforgettable Fire

Arcade Fire are one of the most successful indie bands out there and we especially love their mind boggling videos, always on the cutting edge of technology and design.

Their latest video project is for The Sprawl. You can watch the standard version here, or head to the official site and watch the interactive version.

Cloudy with a chance of beat balls

B.O.B. is turning his gaze to the skies, where he observes an obscure climate phenomenon – namely Strange Clouds. Besides that, he manges to get Lil Wayne for a guest spot on the song.

But Seriously, Strange Clouds is from his next album, which is scheduled to drop in 2012.

Trent Reznor is not just an indie super hero, as the leader of Nine Inch Nails. He’s also not just a pioneer in the use of internet and social marketing to promote his music and communicating with his fan base. He is also an in demand soundtrack composer.

Following his latest succes as the soundtrack composer for The Social Network, he has now done the music for the remake of The Girl with Dragon Tattoo.

Here’s a cover version of Led Zeppelin’s Immigrant Song featuring Karen O from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Birdman is having a party with Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne on this track, Y U Mad. It’s a melodramatic affair, with all 3 rappers delivering super tight verses on razor sharp beats. Check it out here.

Black Swans

Requiem for a Dream, Pi, Black Swan, The Wrestler and now, Loutallica… yes, praised director Darren Aronofsky, has directed the  video for this track by the unlikely collaboration of Lou Reed and Metallica, from their misleading titles album, Lulu. So many legends in one item, we can’t contain ourselves!

The video is shot in black & white, well, mostly black, and features the happy bunch having a blast playing the track together. Get the full album on iMesh

Praying for time

The news of George Michael’s health caught us off guard, and we started thinking about all the great music he’s produced over the years; from his early days with Wham onwards. We are sending our prays and wishes to George Michael, his family and his fans. Hopefully we will mention him here again in happier circumstances.
