Gotta get get

Gotye has released 3 albums that sort of went under the radar, down under the radar that is, as he became quite famous in his home, Australia.

This is all about to change now that Gotye is backed by the international forces of a major record company and on the way to become a household name in the northern hemisphere too. His latest album, Making Mirrors, is now re-released in the U.S. with much anticipation. Check out this track, and get ready for Gotye.

The album is now available for download through iMesh

Missing Missy

Posted by DJ • January 31, 2012 at 10:09 AM

Honestly, we miss Missy. We miss Hip Hop that sounds fun and groovy and cool and effortless like everything Missy touches. Unfortunately, we don’t have any news of a new Missy Elliott album, so a blast from the past will have to do for now.

Here’s Gossip Folks, which came our 10 years ago. Grab it and other Missy Goodies on iMesh

Money in the Banks

Azealia Banks is destined to be a big name in 2012. This song was doing the blogs rounds last year, but will blow up this year with Ms. Banks getting signed to a major label and getting featured on the Skins tv series. Don’t get left behind, make sure you get on board the Azealia train now…

Etta James, R.I.P 1938-2012

One of the greatest singers of all times has sadly passed away last week. Etta James sang the blues, she rocked and rolled, and of course also sang soul, gospel and jazz. Here’s an amazing performance from 1962. She was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in ’93, the Blues Hall of Fame in ’01, and the Grammy Hall of Fame twice (!) - in  ’99 and ’08.

Her amazing talent and unbelievable voice will be missed forever. We’d rather be blind than see her walking away from us.

Mos Dev

Posted by DJ • January 21, 2012 at 10:33 AM

Newcomer Dev is taking her stab at popstardome, big synth-electro-pop hooks, auto-tuned vocals and the whole shebang. Her album is still a bit far off with a March release date, but she just released the video for Dancing Shoes, so we won’t have to bite our fingernails while waiting.

We feel fine

Posted by DJ • January 17, 2012 at 10:31 AM

The beginning of the year is traditionally slow in terms of new releases and new music. This gives us time to have a look at the back catalogue and remember great music from the past. Since some short- sighted people expect the world to end at 2012, we thought this would be a good opportunity to use this classic cut from R.E.M and tell them – no problem, bring it on!

By the way, last year, R.E.M declared that they were calling it a day, so it’s always a good thing to get yourself acquainted with one of the best bands ever in the history of music… download their back catalogue on iMesh

Dave and Eddie are back at it

Jump!

From excitement that is, when you read that Van Halen are re-grouping with their original singer, the flamboyant and magnificent David Lee Roth, who departed from the band back in 1984.

Here’s one of their finest moments and a track that will get your juices ripe for the upcoming Van Halen tour.

If you need more reminders, head to iMesh and grab a bucket full of back catalogue albums

Happy birthday David!

Posted by DJ • January 10, 2012 at 11:42 AM

It was David Bowie’s 65th birthday a couple of days ago, and we are thrilled to mark this event on our blog.  Bowie is truly one of the most amazing musicians and singers to grace this planet, his list of timeless songs and albums are almost unmatched.  Here’s one of his signature songs from the height of his commercial success, back in 1983, Let’s Dance, produced by Nile Rodgers from Chic.

Happy Birthday David, here’s for many more to come, we will always cherish your music!

Pure Kwelity

One of our favorite rappers is Talib Kweli, who always wears his heart on his sleeve, or in this case where his mouth and lyrics are. This new track, Distractions, is a precursor to his album Prisoner of Conscious, which will come out later this year. It connects the dots between Tahrir Square and the Arab spring to the protest on Wall Street.

A breath of French Air

Posted by DJ • January 03, 2012 at 10:40 AM

French duo, Air, are back with another project – soundtrack for a classic 1901 film (!) ’Le Voyage dans la Lune‘ (the Trip to the Moon). Seems only apt, as their first album was called Moon Safari, don’t you agree?

Anyway, here’s a first glimpse into the album, a beautiful track which features the vocals of Victoria Legrand (Beach House).
