Last week we announced that The Techno Kittens had won iMesh’s Guest Blogging Competition, “So You Think You Can Blog”. We loved the blog, which reviews the latest techno tracks, accompanied by kitten inspired artwork. Leigh and Nicola from The Techno Kittens have written the below post, a review of the track “F For You (TEED Remix)”. Check it out and let us know what you think.
Disclosure – F For You (Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs Remix)
Two of the hottest electronic music exports to come out of the UK recently have been the almighty Disclosure duo and the absurdly but brilliantly named Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs (or TEED for short). These two acts have been big influences on the electronic music scene for the past couple of years… Disclosure have been tearing up the UK singles charts, most notably with their tracks ‘White Noise‘ and ‘Latch‘ and have also secured themselves a number one album with their debut Settle, bringing electronic music back into the heart of the UK charts. TEED has brought attention to the scene with his beautifully composed, feel good tracks ‘Garden‘ and ‘Waulking Song‘ that feature on his debut album Trouble. There’s also his BBC Radio 1 Essential mix that aired last August which serves as a great introduction to the DJ wizadry of TEED and the eclectic sounds (you’ll hear bass, garage, deep house and electro influences) that he manages to jump between so well.
So it’s fair to say that the remix treatment doesn’t get much sweeter than this – a TEED remix of Disclosure’s F For You. The dino loving producer brings a darker, underground feel to the track by stripping out the warm pad sounds and the clear cut vocals of the original, replacing them with a grittier bass melody and hashing up the vocals. He’s upped the tempo and added depth to the track with a delicate balance of twinkling sounds and menacing roars (that we can’t get enough of). A well placed drop breaks up the track nicely and the melody develops a progressive feel towards the back end as those warm pad sounds subtly sneak back in.
This isn’t the first Disclosure remix to have caught our attention – Australian producer Flume had a bash with ‘You & Me‘. As did one of our favourite production duo’s and fellow bloggers, Bicep. Both of which are two Disclosure remixes you should check out. Finally let’s not forget that the Disclosure boys themselves catapulted into the limelight with their remix of UK female vocalist Jessie Ware’s single ‘Running‘. It all goes to show you that a remix can be a powerful thing…
