Street Start Up

Yukmouth would grow up on the streets of Oakland Californa where he would be constantly subjected to gang life, violence, and drugs. He would learn a street lifestyle and a completely way to live than others who grew up in small towns and suburban areas. He would see the violence and high cost of living that the gang lifestyle would entail and realize early on that if he was to escape this type of existence, he would have to make some drastic changes or hone his skills on the microphone. He would do that latter and make a name for himself within the rap community.

He would release an album that basically consisted on smoking marijuana, which was called I Got Five On It. After the release of that album, he would release another four albums and one of them would be his best commercial success. The album called Thugged Out: The Albulation would end up selling over five hundred thousand copies in the United States and would eventually be certified gold. He would then form his own record label called Smoke-A-Lot Records where he would produce albums for other upcoming artists. He is a member of the alliance known as Thug Lordz and has worked with many industry greats such as Lil Flip and E 40.

Controversial Lifestyle

Growing up in a hostile environment has the tendency to wear on some people and the rapper would end up in feuds with others in his particular musical community. He would long be involved in a dispute, or feud, as it is called in the rap community. When a friendly freestyle battle between Yukmouth and Too Short would begin, the result was a long standing dislike between the two rappers. Many songs on each of the rappers' albums would have lyrics that would be disdaining and insulting to one another in some shape or manner. Another feud would come with rapper Master P when it was said by Yukmouth that Master P would steal his nickname and use it in one of his songs.

He would also go on to claim that Master P would use the name of the late rapper Tupac to promote himself and that he was basically trying to ride on his coat tails to fame. There would be numerous other rappers that Yukmouth would have trouble with and one led to an altercation in a night club in Los Angeles where it was said a rival member would end up stealing his gold chain. Although the feuds have been numerous, the rapper would not be involved in any real violent activity or at least none that was documented.
