Wilco

I've been trying to get down to the heat of the matter but my will gets weak.

The Windy City

The group who call themselves Wilco, would form in the mid 1990's after the break of an alternative rock band called Uncle Tupelo. The group would form to create a multi categorical sound although they would end up becoming popular as a college band to most. They would gain many loyal and young fans across the nation who would fill venues to see them play and many would go on to buy their records.

Career Start

The group Wilco would get their start with their first release of the album called A.M. that would be their debut album. It was released in late 1994 under Reprise Records which was a subsidiary of Warner Brothers Records. The album was considered to be by many more of an alternative rock with a country base to it, which at the time was slightly off centered although there were other groups that were doing similar styles. The album was released and to very cold critical acclaim and the band has said to think of the album as a failure, which it pretty much was. However, the band had gained support from its more localized followers and would be afforded a tour for support of the album.

While on tour, the band member referred to as Tweedy, would begin to write more songs for a new up and coming album that would be released after they returned to the studio following their 200 date tour. The group would eventually release the album under the name called Being There, which again was a alternative rock alternative country style, which some would go on to say that the band was trying to emulate musicians such as Widespread Panic, who had taken up this country rock style long before Wilco was on the scene. This turned away many new potential fans, however, for fans that were unaware of groups such as Widespread Panic, they would go to Wilco for their music.

Continued Success

The group would go on to make other albums after their last album was released. However, the group was said to have lost a lot of money due to the fact that their second album was a double album but sold at the single album price. The group received virtually no royalties from the album so they had to go back to the studio very quickly to make up for those lost ventures. In 1997, they would go back into the studio, which was the studio of Willie Nelson in Spicewood Texas, to begin work on their third full length studio album.

The group would go to a more depression related style in this album, which would eventually turn some of their fans off. The group would get into controversy when they released the album called Mermaid Avenue, which was an album that was mostly of unreleased material from another artist. The band would eventually sell over two hundred thousand albums although many consider this album to be a failure as well. The group would not be deterred and it was back to the Spicewood studio to complete their fourth album.

Other Releases

The group was to release their next album called Summerteeth, which they hoped would be far better received than their last album. The album came out to be overloaded with editing tools and such and many again with Wilco's album production; however, the many fans were delighted that they produced another album and would continue to buy them. They were signed back to Warner Brothers Records when they produced this album. The album also produced a single release which failed as well.

The group would go on to create more albums although none would be very successful and some even were rejected for sale. Amazingly enough, the group would produce the album called Yankee Hotel Fox Trot, which would be their best seller and make over five hundred thousand album sales. This is said to be their best work. Interestingly, although the group struggles with album sales, they still have a solid fan base, which affords them to keep playing. Many of their fans may want to visit their official web page where they may find free music downloads or songs for internet screening.
