Born to be a star

Vanessa Anne Hudgens was born on December 14, 1988 in Salinas, California. She is part Irish, Native American and Spanish-Chinese-Filipino. She is the older of two children and when she was eight years old she began to perform in musical theatres. Vanessa and her family decided to move to Los Angeles when she got her first role in a commercial. Since then she has performed in the productions of The Wizard of Oz, The Music Man, and Carousel. When she was fifteen she was forced to be homeschooled and could not continue attending Orange County High School of the Arts.

Musical Theatre

In 2003, Vanessa got her first minor role in the film, Thirteen. She played the best friend of the main character. This was a very successful independent film and grossed more than four million dollars. She later landed her second role as Tintin in the movie, Thunderbirds, which was a science-fiction film. The film was not that successful, but Vanessa earned some great reviews and in 2005, she was on several television shows: Drake & Josh, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, ad The Brothers Garcia. In that same year, she landed her most notable role as Gabriella Montez in the hit series, High School Musical with co-star Zach Efron. Following the success of the series, Vanessa went on tour with the rest of the cast in 2006. She would perform “Still There for Me,” with her co-star, Corbin Bleu, as well as, some songs from her debut album as well. She was re-casted for her role as Gabrielle for the High School Musical 2 and 3, which were even more successful than the original.

Music Career

Vanessa signed a deal with Hollywood Records, and she released her debut album, V, in 2006. The first single off the album, “Come Back to Me,” was her most successful single to this day. Vanessa’s debut album reached #20 on the Billboard 200 and went gold on 2007. At the 2007, Teen Choice Awards, she was then declared the Female Breakout Singer of the Year. Vanessa releases her sophomore album, Indentified, in 2008, which debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200. She went on tour to promote the album, but it was only short lived and ended only a month later. In an interview, Vanessa said that she was going to take a break from her music career and focus solely on acting.  

Lawsuits & Topless

In 2007, photos of Vanessa in the nude and posing in lingerie were found on the internet. About two years later, she was the victim of another scandal when topless photos were also circulating the web. In 2009, Vanessa sued moejackson.com because she alleges they posted nude photographs of Vanessa that were supposedly taken in her home. On the other side, Vanessa was sued in 2007, by Brian Schall. He alleges Vanessa owed him $1500, 000 for his songwriting and production efforts which made Vanessa more than $5 million in revenue.
