Twista - Fastest Emcee in the World

"I definitely bring a true hungry MC to the table. One that cares about what he's writing; that cares about making a hot song and is very experienced."

From Rock Bottom

Growing up in one of Chicago's notorious, impoverished west side, Twista lived in a world that involved scenes of junkies, drugs, violence and poverty. He was able to accomplish his dreams of making art and music by using his strength as his determination.

His love for music began to develop at an early age. He loved to move to the beat of hyperactive house tracks and after being influenced by krush grooves and artists like Kurtis Blow, the Sugarhill Gang and the Fat Boys; hip-hop became his passion. Later on, he learned about rap as he listened to college radio and became aware of Eric B. and Rakim, Kool G. Rap, and DJ Polo. After listening to these artists, he was inspired to become an MC himself.

The talented young man did everything he could, in order to get his foot in the door. He participated in talent shows and won numerous shows around Chicago, perfecting his skills through battle-rapping. He proved to be a force to be reckoned with as he continually won at these events.

For 18 years, he has been creating kinetic flows for his listeners and placed Chicago on the map in the music industry. Being resilient in the music scene, Twista continues to produce tracks that are intense but have a mellow vibe. He has inspired a new wave of rap artists to surface.

The Journey to Fame

His journey began in 1991, when a DJ from a local radio station saw him perform during a talent show at Golden Dome, on Chicago's west side. This DJ had a reputation of dedicated searching for Chicago artists. He later became the rapper's manager. Twista conquered the talent show circuit and eventually a demo tape was given to a Chicago promoter for Loud Records. He was so impressed that he took the demo to artist-reps in Los Angeles. They two were amazed with his fresh and dynamic style and contacted him to display his lyrical ability. He became the first artist to sign under Loud Records.

His underground album Resurrection in 1994, received three and a half mics from Source magazine. In 1997, he released Adrenaline Rush with Atlantic Records and the signals "Get It Wet" and "Emotions". The album went on to be certified gold.
