Her voluptuous body is the focus on many of her videos clearly exploiting the sexy kitten images. Trina has also sold over a million copies of her albums in the US and has collaborated with the very best pop and rap artists of the last few years.
The Journey Begins
Trina was brought up in Liberty City in Miami, Florida. The impoverished area of Miami is a rough neighborhood with high crime and poverty. In fact in 1980 Liberty City also had race riots against the Police. Trina shares the rough necks with fellow toughie Mickey Rourke. Her humble beginnings did not bring her down; she was always positive and put her self through high school. She worked as a real estate agent for several years not thinking about her talent and desire to pursue her talent as a musician
Trina’s rapping came under notice of noted rapper Trick Daddy, who persuaded her to leave her real estate job and pursue her dreams in music. He collaborated with her on the track “Nanna N*gga” which was the very first single from his new album. The single became a hit reaching No.3 on the US Rap charts and brought Trina a lot of recognition. She was able to sign a recording contract with Slip –n-Side/Atlantic Records
The Debut Album
Trina started recording her first album. Not familiar with the studio surroundings, she was beginning to learn her way through. By March 2000, she debut her first single “Da Baddest B***C”. The single was a moderate hit but people did get up and take notice of the new female rapper. The album entered at the charts at No. 10 which put Trina on the map. The next single was an even bigger success “Pull Over”, with its sexy video was a sensation and establishing the sex-symbol image of the rapper.
The album has sold in excess of 800,000 copies. And has been certified Gold. She collaborated with Missy Elliot for the Elliot’s second album. She then released her own second album titled “Diamond Princess” featuring the hit single “B R Right” with rapper Ludacris and the controversial “No Panties”. Both singles received heavy airplay and the album peaked just outside the Top 10 on the US album charts at No.14. The album was her second Gold album. After a brief lull in recording she played several live shows and went on tour to promote the album.
The Glamorous Life
The record label wanted a new album, she started writing and recording her third album and managed to release it in Oct 2005. “Glamorest Life” featured her biggest single success to date. A duet with Destiny’s Child Kelly Roland titled “Here We Go” was a smash hit. The single’s popularity was also seen in charting success in several international countries. The album has sold over 400,000 copies in the US. Falling short of the Gold mark; she continued her recording by releasing mix tapes.
In April 2008 she released her much delayed new album “Still the Baddest”. The album was a No.1 on the US Rap charts and for the first time in her career she cracked the Top 10 mainstream album charts peaking at No.6
The same year she formed her own all female rap group in Miami called Pretty Money. The group will be part of her fifth album which is due to hit record stores in 2010. Her fifth album is tentatively titled “Amazin”
