This Canadian Christian rock band has been around since the late 1990s. They have released a handful of albums and made a big name for themselves in the Christian rock band scene. Thousand Foot Krutch has won several awards and toured with bands such as Korn, Paramore, AFI and Relient K and Daughtry.

This Canadian Christian rock band has been around since the late 1990s. They have released a handful of albums and made a big name for themselves in the Christian rock band scene. Thousand Foot Krutch has won several awards and toured with bands such as Korn, Paramore, AFI and Relient K and Daughtry.

Back in Peterborough

The founding member of the band, Trevor McNevan formed the band in his hometown of Peterborough, Ontario. Trevor had previously released an album entitled Shutterbug. On the album with him were three of his friends, one of them, Neil Sanderson was from the band Three Days Grace. The album contained nearly thirty songs, half of them rock and half of them hip hop.

In 1997, Trevor McNevan wrote Thousand Foot Krutch’s first album. That’s What People Do was released independently in 1998 and sold over 5000 copies.

Local Success

A local radio station heard the band’s album and took a chance on them, adding the single Rhyme Animal into their rotation. It was not long before it became one of the most requested songs of the year.

Just a year later, they were featured in 7 Ball Magazine as one of the top 25 bands in North America. That wasn’t the only magazine that mentioned them, Wire Magazine gave them Best Indie Recording and awarded lead singer Trevor with Vocalist of the Year. During the Wire Awards they were presented with Band of the Year. A local radio stationed named them the #1 Band of the Millennium.

Taking Off

In November of 2000 Thousand Foot Krutch released their second album, their first indie label release. They began to tour all throughout North America and were able to sell more than 80,000 copies of their album from the back of their van. Around this time the guitarist, Dave Smith left the band. He was replaced with Mike Harrison who left just a year later. As opposed to replacing him once again Trevor now writes all of the guitar lines and they only use a live guitarist for tours.

In 2003, they signed with Tooth & Nail Recordings and released their second full length album. Phenomenon provided them with four hit singles and sold over two hundred thousand copies. This made them the best selling band in Tooth & Nail history. Because of their success, they rereleased Set it Off through their new label. This allowed for a larger release, plus they added six additional songs.

It was at this time that lead singer Trevor and drummer Steve Augustine created a side band. FM Static is a pop rock band that has had mild success with two top ten hits.

New Sound

Their third album, The Art of Breaking had a completely different sound for them. Straying from their rock/hip hop sound that they were known for not all of their fans took to it. Overall their third full length album was a success. They were also able to get a hit out of a slower song. Breathe You In was released on alternative radio.

In 2006 Trevor began to work with Toby Mac. He helped him to write songs and eventually Thousand Foot Krutch began to tour with Toby in the spring and fall of 2007.

They continued to change their sound to mainstream rock with their album The Flame in All of Us, released in late 2007.

In early 2009, they began to talk of a new album, Welcome to the Masquerade coming out. Trevor appeared in a live chat in April of 2009 to talk to the fans about the upcoming release and give information on it. They reunited with Aaron Sprinkler, who had produced the Phenomenon album back in 2003. One of their singles, Fire it Up will be featured in several video games, EA Sports NHL 10 especially. It also was in the G.I. Joe Rise of the Cobra movie trailer. In September of 2009 the album was released and went all the way to #35 on the Billboard 200.

During the summer of 2009, Trevor underwent surgery to remove his appendix. This caused them to cancel their performance at the Creation West Festival. They were back touring a week after the surgery and were able to go on with other festivals. In September of 2008, Phenomenon, The Flame in All of Us as well as The Art of Breaking were rereleased in a set entitled Déjà vu: The Thousand Foot Krutch Anthology. They plan on touring again in March of 2010 to promote Welcome to the Masquerade.
