Third Day
From the very beginning, praise and worship has always been a huge part of who we are and what we do. Now we're finally able to make a record [that reflects that]. There's always worship on our records; there's always some praise songs on our records, but this was one that was focused entirely on that. I know there are a couple of songs that aren't "praise and worship" songs like "Love Song" or "Thief," but they're songs that we feel bring people into a time of worship.
The Early Days
The Christian rock band, Third Day, was formed in 1992 by high school friends, Mark Lee and Mac Powell. They met David Carr and Tai Anderson at a church performance and had released their first demo album, Long Time Forgotten, by the end of the following year. The album was released on cassette, and about 800 copies were produced.
Performing in venues around Atlanta, they worked on their next recording effort. Their performances were successful, and the band was getting gigs further and further away from their core audiences. In 1994, they released Third Day; about 20,000 copies sold. The album attracted the attention of Reunion Records, and Third Day signed a multi-record deal. Reunion Records re-released Third Day in 1997, and the record ultimately certified gold.
Becoming Stars
The band released two more albums and an EP in the 1990s and dedicated much of those years to touring, alone and supporting the Newsboys. Their 2000 release, Offerings: A Worship Album, went platinum, due in part to aggressive touring, in the US and in Australia and New Zealand. This album, with their 2001 release, Come Together, earned the band eight Dove Awards and two Grammy Awards. They appeared that year in the movie, Joshua, and contributed the single, My Hope is You, to the soundtrack.
In 2004, upon returning from a US tour, Third Day released a live album, entitled Live Wire, which became their next platinum album. Also during 2004, the band contributed to the soundtrack for Mel Gibson's film, The Passion of the Christ, performed at the Republican National Convention, and appeared on 60 Minutes in an episode dedicated to Christian music in the mainstream.
Here and Now
Third Day released the album, Wherever You Are, in 2005, which went gold, followed by a Christmas album in 2006. Following a pair of compilation albums, Chronology Volumes I and II, they recorded and released Revelation in 2009, which peaked at #6 on the Billboard Top 200. The first single from the album, Call My Name, was the fifth most played song for 2008, on the R&R Magazine's Christian Chart.
They are currently on tour with Newsboys, Fireflight, and Tenth Avenue North, on the Winter Jam 2010 Tour. Their next album is due in 2011.
