It’s been crazy seeing all the kids in all the different states. Like Salt Lake City..that’s the furthest West we have ever been. We had a show at 11:30 in the morning, so we were expecting maybe 8 kids to show up. There were about 1200 there and they all knew all the words. We were totally blown away.
Accidental Success
In 2003, childhood friends, Ronnie Winter and Duke Kitchens, began to jam together. Both loved alternative music, as well as pop, thrash, and heavy metal. They recruited the necessary additional members to make up a band and began writing and rehearsing. For eighteen months, they would meet and play, with no intention of performing or recording. Eventually, they realized that through those eighteen months, they had developed as a band.
They began to perform at local venues and were surprised to find that they were developing a fan base. As their popularity grew, they make the decision to try to move forward. In 2006, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus recorded their first extended play recording. They visited recording studios all over the state of Florida. They had been popular at their performances, but their attempts at local showcases were unsuccessful.
Recordings
Undaunted by their failures, the band continued to work at finding a recording company. After a number of roster changes, the band was finally stable, and in 2006, with a recording contract with Virgin Records, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus released their first album, Don't You Fake It. The album certified gold. They headlined the US Take Action Tour, focused on the prevention of youth suicide, accompanied by My Chemical Romance and Rise Against. They spent much of 2006 through 2008, touring both as headliner and supporting act.
In 2009, the released their second album, Lonely Road; the album peaked at #14 on the Billboard 200 chart, and #3 on the Alternative Album charts. At the time of release, the entire album was available for streaming on their MySpace page for three days.
Here and Now
The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus has continued to tour aggressively, performing with such artists as Shinedown, Tickle Me Pink, and Hollywood Undead. They have continued to record EP's; they released four between 2006 and 2009, which are available on line for mp3 download.
In early 2010, the band announced that they are recording another EP, which will be released in April or May. They have recently parted ways with Virgin Records and will be recording on an independent label. They are currently touring parts of the United States.
