The Maine
When we first started, we put two songs on MySpace and let them play out and started talking to kids, and it just started happening for us. Kids just told other kids about our band and followed our songs.
Getting Started
The Maine is an alternative band from Tempe, Arizona. They were formed in 2000,formed by high school friends, Pat Kirch, Ryan Osterman, Alex Ross, Garrett Nickelsen, and John O'Callaghan. After years of jamming and rehearsing, and performing in small, local venues, The Maine released two extended play recordings in 2007, entitled Stay Up, Get Down and The Way We Talk. The latter of these contained a bonus track for those who purchased the music via online download. They also toured in 2007, with Brighten and A Rocket to the Moon.
Picking Up Speed
In 2008, The Maine released their debut album, Can't Stop, Won't Stop. The album sold about 900,000 copies. Like their EP's, the album contained a bonus track available only to those fans who bought the album via iTunes download. They toured that summer on the Soundtrack of Your Summer Tour with Good Charlotte, Boys Like Girls, and Metro Station. Following this tour, they performed for two weeks on the Warped Tour. They wrapped up the year by releasing a holiday EP, entitled . . . And a Happy New Year.
2009 proved equally busy for the band. Over the spring, they traveled on the AP Tour, a concert tour sponsored by Alternative Press, and later in the year, they traveled with the OP Presents Tour, along with Boys Like Girls, Cobra Starship, and Third Eye Blind.
Present and Future
The Maine is currently working on their next album and they are touring again, slated to play the Bamboozle Music Festival at the end of March. The band is known for their use of the internet to communicate with fans. MySpace and Twitter are constantly updated by members of The Maine, to keep fans informed and excited.
Their single, The Way We Talk, was recently remixed and re-released in acoustic form via streaming or download. In addition to their Eps and album, they have contributed to four compilations,including Girls Do What They Want on the Vans Warped Tour – 2009 Compilation, and, most recently, a cover on Def Leppard's Pour Some Sugar On Me for the album, Punk Goes Classic.
Did you know . . .
At the end of 2009, The Maine published the book, This is Real Life, which includes memoirs from band members. The primary topic is their experience on the Warped Tours. Photographs included were done by the renowned photographer, Dirk Mai.
The Maine's first concert was attended by 600 fans, acquired solely through word of mouth and social networking.
Their album, Can't Stop, Won't Stop, is a remix and re-release of their first extended play recording, Count 'Em, One, Two, Three.
