T-Pain Voice Evolution
A lot of people have started to feel that the auto-tune voice enhancement which has been used a lot lately will soon be out of business. At its best Cher was able to use the digital sound and it fit right on her “Believe”, but doing an entire album seems to have its takers and haters. T-Pain has even demanded money from other artist claiming he was the first to use this technology. His music is more RnB then hip hop. In fact he has a name for it called “Hard n’ B”. T-Pain has produced many hit songs for other artists like Ciara, Rick Ross and Lil Mama. He has had a No.1 chart topping single on the US Hot 100 singles and his three albums have sold over a million copies. In 2010 he won a Grammy with Jamie Foxx for the single “Blame It”
The Career
T-Pain is actually short for Tallahassee Pain, the name was chosen because of the hardships he went through in the town while growing up. T-Pain showed tremendous interest in music while growing up. He started is musical journey by being part of a rap band called Nappy Headz. He recorded a cover version of Akon’s single “Locked Up”. The single was called “I’m Fuc*ed Up”.
Akon heard the version and saw real talent in T-Pain and immediately signed him up on his own Konvict Muzik record label. He went on to record his first single called “I’M Sprung”. The second single “I’m in luv (with a stripper)” received a lot of airplay and it propelled the album on to the US charts peaking at No.33.
In 2003 after some live shows and touring he released his second album entitled “Epiphany”. The first single from the album titled “Buy you a Drank” was a massive hit in the US. The single makes several references to dance and rap songs. Cleverly arranged by T-Pain it is ranked at No.63 on the list of 100 Best Songs of 2007.
On the strength of this single, the album debuts at No.1 on the US charts. It would go on to sell nearly a million copies in the US. He also appeared on the song by R.Kelly titled “I’m a Flirt” and “Kiss Kiss” by Chris Brown. He would also help in production of other artists as well. He collaborated with Kanye West for the track “Good Life”. T-Pain achieved a unique feat when 4 songs featuring him appeared on the Top 10 of US Hot 100 chart. The song would even go on to win a Grammy for Best Rap song in 2008.
The Future
T-Pain started recording his third album in 2008 and released it in Oct of the same year. “Thr33 Ringz” featured songs Lil Wayne collaboration titled “Can’t Believe it”. The next single “Chopped and Screwed” featured rapper Ludacris. Filled with guest stars the album peaked in at No.4 on the US charts and No.1 on the US RnB charts. He joined friend Lil Wayne to form duo-T-Wayne. The duo informed their record labels and officially released a self titled remix tape in 2008, following it up with a full fledged first album by the duo released in 2009. He recorded three new tracks and they were produced by The Bizness.
He announced to MTV that he will release a new album in 2010. He continued his collaboration and was part of country pop singer “Taylor Swift” for the for the CMT music awards. He has released “take you shirt off” from the soon to be released new album. Despite the recent back lash on the use of vocal enhancement Auto Tune, he has vowed to continue to use the same. The artist has won two rap Grammy awards as well as several nominations
