Suicide Silence
Well, to be a successful band, you've got to create a buzz. You've got to have kids out there wanting to see you live. And whether you're on MySpace or not, you know, your live show's always got to be there. If you're the kind of band that's not putting on a good show, kids will rather download the album than buy it at a show.
Getting Started
In 2002, five friends in Riverside, California, all of whom were members of local bands, came together to work on a side project. For two years, with a few roster changes, they would come together and jam or perform together at a local venue. In 2004, they decided that what they ad created was of value and that they should try to turn it into a success. The deathcore band, Suicide Silence, was born.
In 2005, Suicide Silence released their first extended play recording, Suicide Silence EP. It was released as an enhanced CD, and contained a QuickTime file of the video for Destruction of a Statue (Live). For the next two years, the band worked on recording singles and actively seeking a recording contract.
Developing a Niche
They signed with Century Media Records, and released their debut album, The Cleansing, in 2007. The album debuted at #94 on the Billboard Top 200. 7.250 units sold in the first week of release, and the album ultimately became the label's second biggest seller of all time. The singles, Bludgeoned to Death and Unanswered were released through the band's MySpace page. A special edition of the album is available with a bonus track, exclusively through Hot Topic retail stores.
Suicide Silence performed with the touring metal festival, known as the Mayhem Festival in the spring and summer of 2008, and went on to tour Europe and the United States with Parkway Drive and Bury Your Dead. Later in the year, they performed a cover of Engine No. 9, by Deftones. The single was included on their 2008 EP, Green Monster, and was made available for mp3 dowload at iTunes.com.
Here and Now
In 2009, Suicide Silence released their second studio album, No Time To Bleed. The album debuted at #32 on the Billboard Top 200, and was released in five different versions; the standard version, the Hot Topic Exclusive Edition, the iTunes edition, the vinyl edition, and the Maximum Blood Edition. Each special edition contains specific bonus tracks, and the latter includes a DVD.
The band toured in 2009 with the Pedal to the Metal Tour, alongside Mudvayne, Static-X, Dope, and Black Label Society. They are also slated to join the 2010 Vans Warped Tour. Suicide Silence has received two Golden God Awards, most recently for “Best New Talent.”
