The Beginnings
Static-X was formed in 1994, in Los Angeles, California, after Wayne Static and Ken Jay of Deep Blue Dream decided to leave the band to venture on their own. The two joined Stgian, recorded a demo, then relocated to Los Angeles in search of new members. Static and Jay meet two guitar players: Tony Campos and Koichi Fukuda. This is the original lineup for Static-X. In 1998, Static-X signed a recording contract with Warner Bros., and a year later in March of 1999, the band released Wisconsin Death Trip. In 2001, the album went platinum with the singles, “I'm with Stupid,” Bled for Days,” and “Push It.” Due to excessive touring and promotion of the album, Koichi left the band in the middle of recording Static-X's sophomore album, Machine. For the next few years, Static-X toured and recorded their third album, Shadow Zone, which was released in the fall of 2003. Their success lead the band to record tracks for various video game soundtracks. The single, “The Only,” can be heard on the Need for Speed: Underground, a Shaun Palmer's Snowboarder video game.
In 2005, Static-X released their fourth studio album, Start a War, and later fired Eisen from the band for legal issues. Two years later, the band released Cannibal; the singles, “Destroyer” and “No Submission.” Even though this album sold more than 30,000 copies in the first week, Static-X has yet to again achieve the success of their debut album. The song, “Destroyer,” is on the promotional video for Smackdown vs. Raw 2008. The band also released DVD and CD called Cannibal Killers Live, in the fall of 2008; later Static-X released their sixth album, Cult of Static, on March 17, 2009. In addition to their studio albums, Static-X has released Static-X Guitar Anthology, a tab book for guitar players.
