James Tapp, a singer, songwriter, and rapper, was born in the Magnolia Projects in what was called the Third Ward of New Orleans. He would become a well known rapper in and around the New Orleans area and would at one point adopt his housing project name as a part of his title. He would go on to gather numerous fans around the New Orleans area who would purchase his albums as well as buy tickets for his shows. Tapp would eventually change his stage name to Soulja Slim and would stay with that name for the duration of his career.
