California Born
The group Slightly Stoopid was formed in the town of Ocean Beach, California when two friends would come together in 1995. Kyle and Mike would create rock/punk group that held roots of reggae and punk which would first sign to the Sublime vocalist Brad Nowell’s record label called Skunk Records. The group was still in high school when they signed their first contract and they would soon go on to release their first album.
Hints of Success
The group of Slightly Stoopid would first release their self titled album while still in high school. The album titled Slightly $toopid would go on to be their debut album. However, they were dissatisfied with corporate record labels and decided to create their own label called Stoopid records. They would release their first album from that label called Acoustic Roots: Live and Direct, which was recorded at a San Diego rock n’ roll station in 2001.
The record would gain little acclaim from critics but with their initial success with Brad Nowell, the group would sell numerous albums off of the fame that they had achieved playing around southern California. During this time they were able to establish a solid fan base while touring to support their first album.
Further Albums
Although the group had created its own record label, the next album release would be off of Surfdog Records and it was called Everything You Need. The album was not of their usual genre although it would go on to sell over one hundred thousand copies. The group would tour in support of the album and were gaining steam while also gathering a much larger fan base. The next album release would come in 2005 where they mixed a variety of styles and genres into their music.
The album was titled Closer to the Sun and was this time released under their own record label of Stoopid Records. Their next studio album would gain the attention of the billboard 200 as well as indie charts. The album would be called Chronchitis and would be listed at number fifty five on the Billboard 200 and would run all the way to number two on the indie rock charts. From this host of albums, the group has afforded themselves the ability to tour in countries such as Germany, the UK, Holland, and numerous other countries throughout the world.
They would later say that the only thing that keeps them playing is their fans. The group has become popular enough to play with bands such as Dave Mathews, Sublime, Marley and the Marley Brothers and numerous other legendary recording artists of the day. Slightly Stoopid has also been able to get their music played in multiple categories such as reggae, punk, and the indie rock genre as well.
Present
The group would go on to release another album that consisted of various types of recordings under the name of Slightly Not Stone Enough to Eat Breakfast Yet Stoopid. This, also, was released under their own label of Stoopid Records.
The group has gone on to say that they hope their many fans will enjoy this compilation as it also covers many all time greats such as I Know You Rider. The many fans of the group can go to their official website where they can find information on the upcoming dates that the band will be touring. Some of their music may also be available as a free music download.
