Silverstein - The Screamers

"Silverstein's membership was derived from existing hardcore, metal, and punk squads, and these influences are never very far from view"

Described as Post-Hardcore, Punk Revival, and Emo/Screamo, Silverstein found a following that were loyal to the genre's bitter, hostile, volatile, and complex but yet passionate and cathartic musical style.

Silverstein - In the beginning

Shane Told, Josh Bradford, Paul Koehler, Richard McWalter began their odyssey practicing their nameless group in Josh's parents' basement in Toronto Canada. Brainstorming for a name, Shane pointed to a book by author Shel Silverstein that just happened to have been an earlier topic of conversation. Their official beginning is recorded as February 2000 when the quartet took the name ~ Silverstein ~ just in time for a show they'd already booked.

They self-released their first extended play album, Summer's Stellar Gaze during their first year. Bill Hamilton joined them in December, 2001, making the quartet a quintet. McWalter left the group during the spring 2002 and was replaced on the guitar by Neil Boshart. The EP, When the Shadows Beam, was released shortly after the new lineup was stabilized.

Victory Records

Silverstein signed with Victory Records in 2002, released their first studio album When Broken Is Easily Fixed, spawning singles Giving Up and Smashed into Pieces from the same releasing in 2004 and 2005, and having sales of over 200,000. Discovering the Waterfront followed in 2005, charting at #3 on Independent and #34 on the US Billboard 200, and selling over 300,000 copies.

Independent chart topper, 2007 release, Arrivals & Departures also made the #25 spot on the Billboard 200. Their March 2009 studio album release, A Shipwreck in the Sand, charted the best with the #10 spot on Top Rock Albums, #3 spot in Independent, and #33 on the US Billboard 200. Their compilation album, 18 Candles: The Early Years was released May 30, 2006, to the 10th spot on Independent.

Crisscrossing the world

Silverstein has toured extensively from the beginning of their 10 year history. They began by touring Eastern Canada after their 2nd EP, the summer of 2005 saw them appearing on both the Van's Warped Tour and Never Sleep Again Tours. 2006 saw them in Europe, Japan and Australia as well as the Canada Taste of Chaos Tour, appearances on the Take Action Tour and on Van's Warped Tour, as well as a nomination for the Juno Award for the Best New Band.

The group toured the United States and Europe during 2007. A very packed 2008 saw appearances in Japan and Australia, their first headline tour across Canada, sold out far in advance prompting announcements via their website for which venues still had tickets still available, a cross country US, and a multi-date European tour.

Another extremely busy touring year began in January 2009 with appearances in South America, Hawaii, Australia, and another headliner United States tour before the release of Shipwreck in the Sand. An extensive Canadian/ North-North American cross country tour, including Newfoundland and Alaska for the first time, wound up the summer on a European tour and appearing again on the Van's Warped Tour. The fall wrapped up with another set of appearances in the US before heading out back to Europe to tour with Billy Talent and Cancer Bats (fellow Canadians)!

Silverstein is still setting heavy tour dates for 2010. They performed a 4-performance 4-album exclusive in Toronto during March, a coast to coast spring tour of the United States, and a return to Canada with performances in Ontario already in the works.

Silverstein hosts a MySpace page, Facebook, YouTube, and twitter sites, as well as their official website at Silverstein.com. All sport free streaming mp3's, song lyrics, newsy updates, tour dates, and venues complete with links to purchase tickets, for their avid fans.
