The Land Down Under

The group Sick Puppies was formed as an alternative rock band from Sydney Australia in 1997 by Shimon Moore and Emma Anzai, along with drummer Mark Goodwin. The group would struggle to gain popularity over many years, simply playing wherever they were welcomed around the country and gaining mostly a localized fan base. However, they would emerge with one of their songs to become a new up and coming band of the twenty first century.

Career Start

The group was formed by the original members in 1997 when they started touring the local night clubs and bars around the city of Sydney. The group was formed around the Australian group Silverchair and was said to have met in their own high school where they would play covers of Green Day, Rage Against the Machine, and Silverchair songs. Eventually they would begin to write their own material while they worked small scale jobs in telemarketing as well as a sandwich maker in the local deli.

With the help of Shimon’s dad, who was also a musician and producer, the group would release their first debut EP Called Dog’s Breakfast. Their first studio full length album would come in 2001 called Welcome to the Real World. The album was a hit in their home country of Australia and afforded them the Triple J Unearthed award which is an annual music contest held in Australia. The band would continue to gain steam and would eventually move to Los Angeles California to propel their music career. Their second studio album was release in 2007 called Dressed Up As Life that contained the single All the Same, which reached the number eight position on the U.S. Modern Rock Chart.

Furthering Their Career

After the release of their second album and a tour that was short lived, the band went back into the studio to begin writing their third studio album. It would be released on July 14 of 2009 and titled Tri-Polar. During the album release, the group stayed in close contact with its many fans through live web casts where they would answer fans’ questions live on air every Wednesday night. They would also release a song for the video game called Street Fighter War and was also used for the NHL playoff games of the Washington Capitals.

The band is classified as what is known to be nu metal but mostly have earned a spot in the category of alternative rock and post grunge style. The group is very involved with its ever growing fan base and uses their web site as a place to update all of their up coming tour dates. They also use their My Space page to update their many fans to what is going on in the studio as well as where they may make guest appearances. The group still answers questions for its many fans every Wednesday night at eight p.m. eastern standard time. Here, the many fans of Sick Puppies can ask questions on what is going on in the lives of the many band members.

They can also just simply hang out and chat and what their likes and maybe even what their dislikes are about the band’s music. This has proven to be an excellent way for the group to communicate as well as gather input from audiences across the globe.
