Seether

Do you believe in love like I believe in pain?

From South Africa

The group Seether was formed as a grunge style band in a post grunge world. They formed together in Johannesburg South Africa in late 2000 and early 2001. The group would perform at parties and night clubs in and around the Johannesburg city as well as the University of Cape Town and the University of Stellenbosch. They would only gain mainly a local following during this time but their fans were very supportive and helped the group gain the confidence to continue on.

First Albums

The group would release their first album called Fragile in 2000 on Musketeer Records that would eventually get the notice of Wind Up Records later on. The band was not under the name of Seether as of yet and were better known as Saron Gas although they would eventually change their name not wanting to be known as the saran gas of world war two.

The group produced their next album called Disclaimer that would gain them small recognition mainly due to the fact that they toured extensively in support of the album. With their confidence level high, the group went in to the studio to create its next album; however, they would be coerced into touring with the band Evanescence that would send them across the world with the group.

During this time, the group would rework the song Broken by using Amy Lee on the vocal portion of the song. The song would go on to be featured on the movie soundtrack The Punisher in 2004. After finishing up the long and arduous tour with Evanescence, the group made it back to the studio in 2005 to produce their next album called Karma and Effect. The album would make its presence known on the Billboard 200 as it would debut at number eight.

The singles off of the album would go on to chart as well while the song Remedy would reach number one in the United States. They would also release a DVD at the time called One Cold Night, which documented the band’s rise through the music industry. The group was told that the album should not contain anything considered obscene and the group would leave out the songs Burrito and Needles.

Continued Success

The band would undergo some changes in 2006, one of which would be the leaving of Pat Callahan who was the lead guitarist. It was said by other members that he produced negativity within the group and had been the cause of many internal conflicts. Also, during this same time, Shaun Morgan had to go into rehab for his abuse of alcohol, which prompted the band to cancel their tour with popular bands of Staind and Three Days Grace.

After the problems were ironed out, the group would produce another album called Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces and would go on to be released in October of 2007. The sales would show over fifty thousand copies in their first week and would debut at the number nine position of the Billboard 200 charts.

The album would contain the single Rise Above This, which would make it to the number one spot on the Modern Rock Charts. Seether would also create a video for the single Breakdown that garnered more attention in a wider audience from its television exposure. The group would promptly begin a tour in support of the album where they would spend most of the year on the road.

The group’s official website will have more information on the history of individual members and upcoming tour dates. Also, one may find some of their music available as free music downloads or internet screening. The group is rumored to be working on a new album for the upcoming year.
