First Starts
The group Scary Kids Scaring Kids would get its start in the early years of the 2000’s whose original members would be Tyson Stevens, Chad Crawford, DJ Wilson, Steven Kirby, Pouyan Afkary, and Peter Costa. The group would produce their first demo with their own personal money and their EP was called After Dark.
The EP was made while the group was still in high school. The group had a hard time finding the money to release the album and some have said that they would hold car washes and fund raisers to help them get money for its release, almost coming to the point of giving up before it was re released in 2005 by Immortal Records.
The band would get signed by Immortal Records in 2005 and go on to release their first full length set that was called The City Sleeps in Flames that was recorded in February of 2005. The album would go on to be released in June of 2005 and would gain moderate success around their local fan base but enough to produce two music videos off of two singles on the album. The song The Only Medicine and My Darkest Hour would be made into music videos that gained very little exposure.
Other Albums
Scary Kids Scaring Kids would go back to the studio and create another full length album that was self titled. The album would release in August of 2007 and was produced by Don Gilmore who had worked with other up and coming musicians such as Dashboard Confessional as well as Linkin Park.
The group wanted the album to follow a more transitional style and create a more composition of collections instead of random music that was thrown together to create an album. Pouyan would go on to explain this in an interview later on. In 2008, the group Scary Kids Scaring Kids would be awarded by the animal rights group PETA for Best Newcomers as a result of their speaking out against the fast food chain Kentucky Fried Chicken in PETA’s I Am Not A Nugget campaign.
This was a bit ironic due to the fact that most of the band members were not actually vegetarians and had indulged in the fast food delicacies of Kentucky Fried Chicken at one time or another. The group would eventually leave Immortal Records before it became defunct and would then sign with RCA Records.
They would go on a fall tour with the groups Anberlin, Straylight Run, and There for Tomorrow in support of their last album release and they would announce to their fan base that they would begin working on a new album very soon which should be released later in October of 2009. As of yet, with the band breaking, the album has not yet been released.
The Break Up
Singer Tyson would go on to take time off of the Warped Tour in late of 2009 so the group would get singer Brandon Bolmer to fill in for the rest of the tour. It was posted prior to this, however, they the group Scary Kids Scaring Kids would no longer be together after they finished the last leg of the Warped Tour in January of 2010.
Many fans have speculated as to where the group’s members will eventually turn up as many do not believe that all are done in the rock n’ roll world. Their website will explain and give interviews on the disbandment as well as any other projects of interest. Some of their music may be available for free music downloads across the internet.
Did You Know
Pouyan’s blog was the first announcement of the band’s break up and merely stated, “WE Are Breaking Up” as the subject line.
