Sara Evans
People always say you can tell the real deal, and I feel like there's nothing fake about what I do. It's just always been my life.
Born to Music
Sara Evans was born in New Franklin, Missouri, one of seven children. She was singing in her family's band by the age of five, and at eight was singing to raise money for her own hospital bills when she was struck by a car and suffered multiple fractures in both of her legs. The rest was history. Sara was performing in nightclubs by the time she was 16 years old.
In 1995, living in Nashville, Tennessee, Sara began recording demos in hopes of gaining a performing contract. Country star, Harlan Howard, heard her demo of his song, Tiger by the Tail, and liked what he heard. With his help and guidance, Sara eventually was awarded a recording contract with RCA Nashville.
Launching a Successful Career
Sara's debut album, Three Chords and the Truth, debuted in 1997. This first album climbed to #56 US Billboard's Top Country Albums Charts. Also during 1997, Sara Evans won Best Country New Artist Video of the Year at the Billboard Music Video Video Awards. Critics were thrilled with Sara's traditional country sound. However, when her second album was released, No Place that Far, the critics turned on her, accusing her of abandoning her traditional sound to make a pop/country album.
Her third album, Born to Fly, was released in 2000 and was the explosion Sara's career needed. From this album came four singles, including the title track which went to #1 on the charts. Three of the four singles spent time in the top 10, and the album went double platinum. Sara Evans had arrived.
Managing Stardom
In 2001, Sara Evans was the most-nominated artist at the Country Music Association Awards, with seven nominations. Her video for the single, Born to Fly, won Video of the Year. Her album, Real Fine Place, released in 2005, hit #1 on the country charts and #38 in the Pop Top 40. This album also put her on the “Hot Digital Songs” chart, as her singles began to be requested and distributed via mp3 download as well. The following year, Sara was named Top Female Vocalist by the Academy of Country Music.
Now, having released five albums and a greatest hits album and a 4-song Christmas EP, Sara Evans is sitting on top of the world. In addition to recording and touring, Sara has appeared on Nashville Star and the game show, Password.
