Rob Zombie

"The hardest part was convincing people that I was serious. The people were like 'you want to do this again'?"

Rob Zombie is a director, musician, producer and screenwriter. He was the founder of an award winning band, White Zombie. In addition to his work with the band he also had solo work that won him awards. He is an accomplished director with several movies done and several more in the works to be done.

White Zombie

Robert Barleh Cummings was born in January of 1965 in Haverhill, Massachusetts. In 1985, Rob Zombie founded band White Zombie. He got the name from an old horror movie starring Bela Lugosi. They started out as a noise rock type of band. Eventually they changed their sound to one of heavy metal that contained lyrics of fantasy images.

They signed with Geffen records and quickly released two double platinum albums that put them in the mainstream spotlight. The band was together until 1998, when he decided to go solo.

Solo Work

While still with the band, Rob Zombie collaborated with his hero, Alice Cooper in 1996. Their song Hands of Death was on the X-Files soundtrack and was nominated for a Grammy. The following year, he released the song The Great American Nightmare for Howard Stern's movie Private Parts. The song is still used for the opening of Howard's radio show.

His first solo album was released in 1998. Hellbilly Deluxe sold three million copies and brought him great success with four huge hit singles. In 2001, he released The Sinister Urge as his sophomore solo album. He found success with this album as well as it was certified platinum. Two years later, he put out a greatest hits album entitled Past Present & Future. This album contained songs from White Zombie as well as from his solo career as well as covers and unreleased songs.

Continued Success

In between all of his musical success, Rob Zombie decided to try his hand as a director. In between the years 2003 and 2005, he released two movies. His first movie, House of 1000 Corpses took him four years to make and contained a lot of gore and violence. He followed this movie up with its sequel, The Devil's Rejects. This movie had a much higher acceptance among critics although it was still very dark and gritty like the first.

He came back to music in 2005 and released Educated Horses the following year. He had moved on from his more heavy sound with an alternative metal sound.

In 2006, Rob Zombie got together with Gilby Clarke from GNR, Slash from Guns N'Roses, Scott Ian from Anthrax and Tommy Lee from Motley Crue along with a special appearance by Ace Frehley from KISS. Together they formed a super group that performed at the very first annual VH1 Rock Honors Award Show.

In 2007, Rob had a faux trailer for the movie Grindhouse. In addition to this he also released a live album entitled Zombie Live. In addition to this he took over the Halloween franchise and released Halloween in August of this year. This movie opened at #1 at the box office with $26 million, it made a total of $78 million during its showing.
