Reba McEntire

Be different, stand out, and work your butt off.

Growing Up In Oklahoma

Born on March 28, 1955, Reba McEntire has become one of the many legends of the country music industry. She started her career singing with her brothers and sisters, eventually getting the notice of country music singer Red Steagall when performing at a rodeo in Oklahoma City.

Whisked away to Nashville, Tennessee, she would eventually sign with Mercury Records in 1975, which would be the first of the many record labels she would contract with throughout her career. Her career in the country music industry would afford her much acclaim while winning awards and honors of all types. She would even gain her own television sitcom at the turn of the century in the 2000’s.

Starting Off

In January of 1976 Reba McEntire recorded her first single on the Mercury record label that was called I Don’t Want to Be a One Night Stand, but the single did not make her an overnight success and would only find its way to number eighty eight on the country music charts.

In 1977 she would release her first full length album that was self titled, but did little on the top album charts although some of the singles such as Three Sheets in the Wind would reach the top twenty five on country music singles charts. Her second album was released in 1979 titled Out of a Dream, which contained her first top twenty single that was a cover of Patsy Cline’s Sweet Dreams.

In 1980, she released another single called You Lift Me Up (To Heaven) that would go on to be her first top ten single. Her third album titled Feel the Fire was released later in 1980 that would also afford her two more top twenty hits.

Career in the Industry

Through the middle of the 1980’s, Reba McEntire had many full length albums that would make it to the country music charts as both in singles as well as album charts too. However, her biggest success came with the signing to MCA Nashville Records and releasing a number of singles with mixed reviews although she would go on to be named Female Vocal Artist of the Year by the County Music Association in 1984.

Her next big single would reach number five on the country music singles charts, which was named Only in My Mind. In January of 1986, Reba McEntire would become a member of the Grand Ole Opry show of Nashville Tennessee. In 1986, later that year, she would be nominated and win a Grammy Award under the category of Best Female Country Vocal Performance and the title track off of her album Country Music: The Rough Guide would reach the number one position on the Billboard Country Charts.

She continued her reign through the 1980’s and well into the nine teen nineties with many albums, some of which going double and triple platinum. Her country music style had become embedded in the hearts of her adoring country music fans and would never be fully quenched. Her solo career afforded her many awards and honors, which would include more Grammy’s as well as the fact that there albums were flying off of the shelves.

Present Day

Reba McEntire still continues to delight her fans with her country music style and voice that is said to be like no other. She tours solo as well as with other country music legends such as Alan Jackson and Toby Keith. In the late 1990’s, she was picked up by a few screen productions and even had her own television show at one time.

Her latest songs and news can be seen at her web site and some of her music may be available as free music downloads over the internet. It is said that she will continue to delight her fans for many years down the road and will never let up, only sometimes to simply take a breath.
