But it still feels good to us -- touring and being out seven years on the road and seeing the fans every night. It's amazing that it still feels brand new to us. It just could never get old.
How it All Started
Gary Levox and Jay DeMarcus, second cousins from a musical family, met Joe Don Rooney on the music circuit. Levox and DeMarcus were performing in night clubs, and when a guitarist could not make it one night, they called in Rooney. The three decided to make a go of it, Rascal Flatts was born.
In early 2000, Rascal Flatts released their debut single, Prayin' for Daylight, which peaked at #1 on the country charts. The single was included on their self titled debut album, and the subsequent three singles made appearances in the Top 10. The single, I'm Movin' On, which peaked at #4, earned Song of the Year from the American Academy of Coutry Music in 2002.
Building Momentum
In October of 2002, Rascal Flatts released Melt, their second album. By May, 2003, the album sold 7,073,000 copies. The album crossed over and appeared on country and pop charts, with the singles, These Days, I Melt, and Love You Out Loud. The band launched their I Melt Tour to promote the album. The tour and the album were huge commercial successes.
Having built a name and a fan base in the country and the pop music circuit, their next two albums, 2004's Feels Like Today and 2006's Me and My Gang each certified 5x platinum. Me and My Gang had the highest US debut of 2006, remaining at #1 on the Billboard Country Chart for fifteen weeks. The tour to support the album grossed over $46 million and drew over one million people to 79 shows.
Life at the Top
In 2006, Rascal Flatts was the highest selling artist with nearly 5 million albums sold and over 4 million digital sales. The demand for mp3 downloads of their hits continues to be strong. To date, the band has released six studio albums, one live album, and two compilations. Their 2009 release, Unstoppable, spawned four singles.
