From South of the Border
Coming from south of the border in Mexico, the teen pop sensation has sold numbers of albums worldwide. Even the fact that there was no album version of their debut album in the English language, this still did not stop them from coming north and topping out at number ninety five on the Billboard 200.
First Projects
The group RBD released its first album titled Rebelde on November 30, in 2004 under the instruction and writing of Carlos Lara and Max di Carlo. The album released three singles titled Rebelde, Solo Quedate En Silencio, and Salvame. All three were number one hits in their native country of Mexico. Their tour called Tour Generacion RBD En Vivo was a live taping on DVD that documented their tour of Mexico where the group managed to sell out over forty five shows of which sixteen were in Mexico City.
The album Rebelde would sell five million copies in Brazil and Mexico while still managing seven hundred thousand in the United States where there was no English translation available. Their second album called Nuestro Amor was released in 2005 and ended up selling over one hundred and twenty five thousand copies in its first day of sales.
The album went on to release four singles all of which would reach the number one spot in Mexico and made it to number eighty eight in the United States Billboard 200. Their popularity was unmatched and tragedy struck in 2006 at an autographing session when a thirty eight year old woman and her two sons were trampled to death in a stampede in the parking lot of a mall in Brazil.
Touring Northward
2006 saw the first year that RBD set its sights on the United States and was a success. The tour was recorded on DVD and released under the title of Live In Hollywood, which would reach number six on the Latin Album Charts. The same year the group would be nominated for a Latin Grammy Award but would not win.
The third studio album called Celestial would be released late in 2006 and the album proved that their US tour paid off. The album sold over one hundred thousand copies in its first week of US sales. With US sales rising, the group decided this would be the perfect time to release their first album in English called Rebels that would make it to number forty on the Billboard 200 and a first week of sales at ninety four thousand copies.
The group would go on to be the fastest growing Mexican pop group the world had seen. In late 2007, RBD released another studio album called Empezar Desde Cero, of which many singles would also make it to at least the top five on all of the Mexican charts. The album would sell over one million copies world wide.
In 2008, while the group played a free concert in Brazil to an audience that was said to be over five hundred thousand people, they were said to be the first group ever to have six different albums rated in the Top 10 charts. Their last album would win the Latin Grammy Award for Best Pop Album.
The Group Moves On
Like most groups that achieve fame in the blink of an eye, there comes the day where many begin to get restless and wants to see what the rest of the world has to offer. Many in the group went on to pursue solo careers while a few simply took a break. Their many fans can follow their endeavors on their official fan website and some of the music may be available for free music downloads or internet screenings.
