Queens Of The Stone Age
Basically, if there was a negative rumor that someone brought up to me I would just encourage it... like when someone was saying: Well, Mark got fired, Lanegan, you know. And I was like: Yeah, Mark is fired, too, yeah. But he was just touring his own solo record, you know.
California Born
The group known as Queens of the Stone Age got their start in the town of Palm Desert California, where they began playing their hard style of thrash metal. The group began with guitarist Josh Homme who would gather others to form the band Queens of the Stone Age. The group’s first release was called Gamma Ray, which was a short EP to display their many talents and would be released in 1996. The members of the band were now Josh Homme, Matt Cameron, Van Conner, and John McBain. The first live appearance was said to be in late 1997.
First Success
The release of their self titled album called Queens of the Stone Age in 1998 was released on both Groove Records as well as the old school vinyl album by Man’s Ruin Records. The album go very little recognition but would afford them the attention of many in the thrash metal world and attract many new fans for which they would depend on to buy their records.
Their next album would be called Rated R which would be a work across many categories. The album would later be deemed as unsuitable for Wal Mart stores as the company found it to promote the use of drugs and would promptly pull it from their shelves. This proved to be great publicity for the group and upon this announcement by Wal Mart, their album Rated R began to see copies selling more and more.
This would also earn them the ability to perform with up and coming groups such as Smashing Pumpkins and Foo fighters on the Ozzfest Tour in 2000. Although the band was garnering many new fans with each venue played, they would comment on one particular show in Germany where they claimed it to be the worst show that they have ever performed and simply could not get it together.
Later Albums
Queens of the Stone Age would go back in the studio after countless touring and in August of 2002 produce the record album called Songs for the Deaf with collaborative efforts from many industry greats such as Glenn Danzig of his self titled group Danzig. The album Songs for the Deaf gained the group commercial success with the album selling over nine hundred thousand copies and going gold later in 2003.
The release of the singles No One Knows and Go With The Flow would become radio hits as well as be featured on MTV and also on the popular video game Guitar Hero. The band would go on a headlining tour through Australia but would start to see some internal conflict and Homme would eventually fire Oliveri for his use of excessiveness when drinking. The group would continue to go on tour and release more albums over the up coming years of the 2000 decade.
Their success would falter and the reappear with the release of these albums. The fans of Queens of the Stone Age can follow the group on their official web site that will list information on new and upcoming events that the group will be participating in. Also, some of their music may be available on other websites that would allow free music downloads. The group’s tour dates should also be posted on various websites throughout the internet.
