Pesado
In each album, the quintet fro Monterrey includes some innovative element like mixtures of norteno music with Latin rhythms, accordion, guitar and drums. These sounds have made the perfect combination with the hue of the vocalist's voice, achieving a modern, fresh and very northern sound.
Getting Started
Pesado was created in 1993 when a group of young people from young people got together, basically to enjoy some music and “jam.” Beto Zapato and Pepe Elizondo were joined by July Tamez, Mario Padillo, and Rodolfo Gajarda. They specialized in norteno music, but with their own flavor, and influence from the northern regions of Mexico.
The band released their debut album, Ayudame a Olvidar in 1993 on the MCA Record label, followed by 1994's release, Llego el Amor. The latter achieved gold status, but it was in 1995, when they recorded and released Eso Me Gusta that the members of Pesado knew that they had founded something special.
A Huge Success
In the late 1990s, some cast changes occurred. Rodolfo Gajarda left the band in 1997 and was replaced by Juan Antonio Pequeño on the bass, and drummer Mario Padillo left in 1999 to be replaced by ex-Grupo Límite drummer Luis Mario Garza. Also in the late 1990's the band left MCA and signed a contract with new WeaMEX. By the end of the decade, Rolling Stone Magazine had named Pesado in the the Top 10 in the list of Latin bands.
Their 2001 album, All Yours, was edited for both Mexico and the United States. It certified platinum and sold successfully in both countries. Their 2004 album, Rezare, marked their sixteenth studio album and was mixed and produced by the band at Monterrey Sound Studios. Two years later, he band was nominated for a Grammy Award for their 2006 album, Piensame A Moment.
Going Strong
