Starting Young
Born in 1989 in San Angelo, Texas, Paula DeAnda started taking piano lessons at age 6 and was soon singing at community events at the recommendation of her piano teacher. As she got older, she continued to perform and was asked to perform the Star Spangled Banner at local sporting events. By 2002, her potential was evident, and she and her parents moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, to help further Paula's music career.
In Corpus Christi, Paula became acquainted with Ed Ocanas, a local program director, who was instrumental in helping her secure a contract and financial backing with Evident Music Group. Together, the label and Ocanas were able to get her a gig as the opening act for part of a hip hop tour, which included Nelly, Baby Bash, and Frankie J.
Capitalizing on Success
Paula DeAnda released her first single, What Would It Take, in 2005, and enjoyed some radio play locally. Her second single, Doing Too Much, was a minor hit in the southwest, where she was securing air play. Ocana helped her set up a limited concert tour in California and Texas to promote her singles and grow her fan base.
Doing Too Much became the initial release from her debut album, Paula DeAnda, which was released in 2006. The album included appearances from Baby Bash and Lil Wayne. Her second single from the recording was Walk Away (Remember Me) became her biggest hit, reaching Billboard's Top 20. Subsequent releases did not chart, but remain popular among her fans.
What's Next
Paula DeaAnda walked into 2010 with a solid career start. Her album, while met with mediocre reviews and sales, continues to be popular on line, where the songs and the album are available for download at her website and on various music sites. She has built relationships with other artists, having appeared on albums for Baby Bash and Sean Kingston.
Paula released a single in March of 2009, Roll the Credits, which is to be featured on her upcoming album, the name of which is not yet known. The song received little air play in the United States and did not chart. However, it has received a multitude of on line requests. Fans wish to download the single in mp3 format or for ringtones.
