They include personal experiences and feelings within their songs so their fans are able to relate to them. Formation of the Band
Papa Roach came together in early 1993, a drummer named Dave Buckner met a singer named Jacoby Shaddix while going to Vacaville High School. They wound up bonding over music. They later added bassist Will James and Ben Luther, a trombonist. They entered into the school talent show, and performed Jimi Hendrix's song, Fire. Unfortunately for them, they did not end up winning the contest. Then, in 1993, Ben Luther was replaced by a new lead guitarist named Jerry Horton.
In 1994, they released Potatoes for Christmas, their first EP. Dave Buckner found himself replaced by Ryan Brown temporarily. Buckner was in Seattle for a year, studying art. The demo Caca Bonita was released by Sound Farm Studios in 1995. Buckner was a part of this album. In 1996, bass player Will James was replaced by Tobin Esperance; he had found himself in a summer church camp.
Moving on in the Career
In 1997, Old Friends from Young Years came out. This was their first ever full length album. They continued touring heavily. They released their EP entitled 5 Tracks Deep in 1998. They produced yet another EP titledLet 'Em Know, and this would be their last independent release in 1999. They were able to get Warner Music Group's attention. They then paid for the production of a short demo CD. This CD included Dead Cell, Last Resort, Infest, She Loves Me Not, and Broken Home. Warner then decided that they were not going to sign them due to a seeming lack of sheer talent that had been presented during previous musical efforts.
DreamWorks Records contacted Jacoby soon after their refusal. They offered them a contract deal. Once they had signed with them in the fall of 1999, they quickly recorded their debut album for them titled Infest.
They released the new album in April of 2000; it sold over 30,000 albums within the very first week. After they released the album, they shot the Last Resort music video. It was then that they went on the Vans Warped Tour. In 2001, they toured Ozzfest, they then found themselves performing on the main stage, for the United Kingdom as well as the United States and tours.
Second Album
After the touring, they went back to the studio to start recording their third album. They originally were going to name it Born to Rock, they decided to rename it Lovehatetragedy. Released in June of 2002, the album charted high in the States but it didn't outsell Infest. They sold more than 500,000 copies, the album was also certified gold.
Moving on to Bigger Fame
Their fourth album, Getting Away with Murder was released in 2004.
In 2005, they spent most of their time on tour. They went through the United States as well as Europe alongside Unwritten Law and Slipknot. Papa Roach dropped their fourth album with a label, The Paramour Sessions in September of 2006. They were told the best way to make an album is in a mansion, so on this request they recorded their fourth album in the Paramour Mansion. The first single from their album was used for the official song from 2006 to 2009 for WWE Raw. On the Billboard 200 Charts the album debuted at #16.
In August of 2006, the band started touring for their new album. Papa Roach released their sixth EP, Live Session in July of 2007. Then, in 2007, their seventh EP, Hit 3 Pack: Forever was released. In 2007, their drummer Buckner would not be present during the band's tours, and was stated that he eventually checked himself into rehab. Tony Palermo filled in for drums. In January 2008, they announced that Buckner was out for good so he could sort his life out. Palermo would take over for the touring and recording.
More Present
The band's new album titled Metamorphosis marks their ten year relationship with DreamWorks Records. They released their album in March 2009. They once again went on tour, this time with Motley Crue. They continued touring with Seether and Staind. In June 2009, they released their eighth EP, Naked and Fearless.
