Northern Border
The rock n’ roll alternative group Our Lady Peace was formed in the busy city of Ontario, Canada where a group of college students came together to form the headlining band. They would release their debut album called Naveed in 1994 when they were under the Sony Music Canada record label. They would go on to extensively tour their home country in support of the album where they would gain a solid fan base across the touring range. The album was picked up later in 1995 and released again in the United States where the band further created a multi national fan base that would eventually propel them to stardom.
Early Success
With the release of their first album, the group was afforded to go on supporting tours for legendary bands such as Van Halen as well as industry greats such as Jimmy Page and Robert Plant. The single and title track Naveed became a hit for the group of Our Lady Peace and their other single Starseed would also chart in the United States and be added to the movie Armageddon on the soundtrack. The group would go on to release their second album called Clumsy in 1997.
The album had many hit songs such as Superman’s Dead, Automatic Flowers, and the title track Clumsy. The band would go on tour around the country with groups such as Foo Fighters and A Perfect Circle. The group would gain many new fans from these tours and would gain them popularity in both Canada as well as United States. The group would support their album but still not be happy with their success and would go back into the studio to begin work on their next album.
Further Albums
Our Lady Peace would begin their diligent work on their next album and would go on to release their third album was called Happiness…Is Not a Fish That you Can Catch. The album would hold many hits such as Thief, which was about cancer stealing the life of a young girl named Mina Kim, whom the band had actually met.
Another feature on the album was a song called Stealing Babies where the jazz legend Elvin Jones was featured. Another aspect of the album would have the multi talented Jamie Edwards, whom would eventually join the band officially in 2001 and would go on to help the band finish the album called Gravity.
Fro their newfound success, the group was afforded to play at the music event of the decade called Woodstock ’99. The band would later go on to create another album called Spiritual Machines, which would be a concept album. The album would be released and still considered a commercial success although it would sell very few albums.
Present Works
Our Lady Peace was becoming bored with their same old style and would be rumored to almost break up after the album Spiritual Machines. The tour caused a lot of trouble for the group as they were becoming worn out from the road and becoming weary with one another. The group would go on to release its fifth studio album called Gravity. The album was not received well with critics and sales dramatically although the drummer Jeremy Taggart would go on to say that this was their best album.
The album would contain their first number one single Somewhere Out There, which would gain the band international attention.
