OJ Da Juiceman

I set trends. At first I didn’t like it. Then I realized I set trends. I ain’t beef type artist. So it’s not beef. Some people get set in their ways. So they borrow me. I don’t worry about it.

Getting Started

Otis Williams, Jr., better known by his stage name, OJ Da Juiceman, is an American rapper.  He grew up in Atlanta, and became acquainted with rapper Gucci Mane in the early 1990s.  He and Mane made a number of mixtapes with DJ Drama and other dj's, and was finally awarded a recording contract with Asylum Records in 2009.

He also founded his own vanity label, called 32 Entertainment.  OJ Da Juiceman, like his associate, Gucci Mane, are known for performing “trap music,” which is a specific genre of urban music, which emphasizes the sound and the beat rather than the lyrics.  The multiple mixtapes they recorded in the early years in Atlanta are available for mp3 download at Juiceman's website and through his label.

Recordings

In 2009, OJ Da Juiceman recorded his first album, The Otha Side of the Trap.  The album was released on CD and digitally.  The album peaked at #32 on the US R&B chart and #9 on the Rap charts.  Success of the album is attributed to a combination of sales of CDs and downloads.  The single, Make Tha Trap Say Aye, reached #13 on the rap charts and was a collaboration with Gucci Mane.

Also in 2009, Juiceman continued to produce mixtapes, and contributed to several albums, including The Last Kiss by Jadakiss.  He contributed the single, Who's Real, performing with Jadakiss and Swizz Beatz.  During this time, he also recorded with Gucci Mane, R. Kelly, Playaz Circle, and Yo Gotti.  These conglomerations appeared on albums released by other artists.

Here and Now

Since the beginning of 2009, OJ Da Juiceman has produced fourteen mixtapes, including his most recent, which he recorded with DJ Drama, called O.R.A.N.G.E.  In early 2010, Juiceman recorded the single, Wall Money, with Lil Scrappy and Titi Boy, for Lil Scrappy's album, The Grustle.

OJ Da Juiceman has announced that he is currently working on his newest album, to be titled The Otis Williams Jr. Story.  It is due out sometime in late 2010.  He wrapped up a short tour at the end of 2009, and has not yet announced any upcoming dates.  Juiceman remains affiliated with Gucci Mane and will continue to release mixtapes and singles, while fans are awaiting his next album.
