In The Beginning
In 1960 Neil started making music with a long string of different bands in the Toronto area. Some of which included Neil Young and the Squires and Mynah Birds. He was able to draw much of his style from several different popular bands of the age. Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley and The Beatles were some of the many to influence the young musician.
To Sunshine And Fame
After the Mynah Birds split Young left Canada to try his luck in California. He made it to L.A. and recorded a few tracks with the band Buffalo Springfield. They had luck with a song called "For What Its Worth", it was a hit across the nation. Young became the most popular of the group because of the style that he brought. He wowed crowds with his guitar playing and his down to earth demeanor. His voice is one that can calm the soul.
He eventually went solo and in November of 1965 released his first solo album simply called "Neil Young". This first solo album would not set the stage for future solo albums by Neil Young. It was not very popular with main stream, it did have some good music that is available on MP3 downloads. With the first solo album behind him Young decided that the help of Crazy Horse might be a great addition for the next solo album. Crazy Horse is a backing band that helped to provide the upward momentum that Young needed to make it in mainstream. The second album that he recorded, was done out of his home recording studio and was backed by Crazy Horse. This album was a step in the right direction for Young. It helped to get him national coverage as well as to be noticed at the famed Woodstock in the summer of 1969.
