Nate Dogg

There's no telling where I would be if I didn't know how to do this music thing. Sometimes I would be about to lose my mind and want to knock somebody in the head or something, then I could hear a song and just chill out. It calms the savage beast.

The Early Years

Nathaniel Dwayne Hale, better known by his stage name, Nate Dogg, was born in Long Beach, California.  He dropped out of school when he was sixteen years old and joined the Marine Corps. He served three years and returned home.  Upon his return, he, his cousin Snoop Dogg, and their friend, Warren G., formed the rap trio, 213.  The released a demo, which caught the attention of Dr. Dre.

Nate Dogg debuted on Dr. Dre's album, The Chronic in 1993.  He signed with Death Row Records soon after the recording.  He released his album in 1998; it was a double album entitled G-Funk Classics, Vol. 1 and 2.  Thug Life, Vol. 1 was the original release, but due to legal issues with the recording company, by the time he was able to release it, it had become a two-disc set.  The album included collaborations with a number of rappers, including Snoop Dogg, Warren G., and 2Pac.

On a Roll

In 2001, Nate Dogg released Music and Me, through Elektra Records.  The album enjoyed a moderate amount of critical and commercial success.  The single, I Got Love, peaked at #33 on the Rhythmic charts.  The popularity of the album was due, in part, to collaborations that appeared were included.  Some artists who appeared on the album are Dr. Dre, Ludacris, Jermaine Dupri, and Xzibit.

His self-titled album was supposed to be released in 2003, but was delayed for a number of reasons, and was therefore not released until 2007.  Career collaborations include Snoop Dogg, Warren G., 50 Cent, Eminem, Ludacris, 2Pac, and The Dogg Pound.

The Tragic End

In 2007, Nate Dogg suffered a stroke, leaving his left side fully paralyzed.  His doctors predicted a complete recovery.  His second stroke came a year later.  Fans speculate that perhaps he is dead, but the latest word is that Nate is alive, using an assisted-breathing tube to breathe.

Nate's music is available at numerous musical sites for mp3 downloads.  Singles and albums are available for purchase, and they remain in demand since his series of strokes.  Over the course of his career, Nate Dogg recorded songs for the soundtracks for the films, The Transporter and Head of State.  He also provided a voice-over for an episode of the cartoon, The Boondocks, playing himself.
