Harlem Born
The American techno DJ known as Moby was born in the city of Harlem New York and raised by his mother. They moved to Connecticut at a very young age and that is mostly where he was raised. Hall would begin playing music at a very young age when he started to study the classics and would then go on to play the guitar and drums. He would join a punk rock band in the middle 1980’s and would eventually sign with a company to begin producing his own albums later in life.
Career Start
Moby would sign with a record company called Instinct Records in the late 1980’s when the record company itself was merely in start up mode. He would release his first single called Mobility, which did not garner much success and virtually no critical acclaim. However, his second single proved to be more popular and was used in the television show called Twin Peaks. The single would go on to reach the UK top ten 1991 in the month of October.
His electronica sound had grabbed the European world where he would be much more successful than in the United States. He was also getting some attention from other groups of that time such as The Prodigy, Orbital, and The B-52’s. In 1992 some of his remix work with these bands would earn him the right to begin a tour with The Prodigy and other up and coming bands of similar sound. After his tour, he felt that it was time to go back to work and went back to the studio to produce his next EP.
Further Career
Moby would go into the studio in 1993 and walk out with the production of his next EP called Move complete. After the album, he would rejoin some of the bands that he had earlier worked with on tour. The bands that he would be touring with during this time were Aphex Twin and Orbital, which he would tour with through the United States. His next album would come after his touring schedule was complete. In 1995 he went on to release his first full length album called Everything is Wrong. This would be his first big break and he also began to get the attention of critics as well who received him warmly.
It would be later named by Spin magazine as the best album of the year. From this album, he would gain enough success to put him on the second stage at the rock n’ roll event called Lollapalooza where he would play with the artists of the day such as Beck, Sonic Youth, and Pavement. He was not satisfied yet and would begin a tour with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Soundgarden in 1996 where he would tour all across the European continent. After his tour, it was back to work and he would then release his next album called Animal Rights.
Present Work
Moby would not be finished and continue to work on new releases. In 1997 he would release the album that was called I Like to Score, which was an album that was a remix of movie soundtracks. He was getting ready to release the album of his career although he would not know this at first. Hall would go on to gain the attention of the world with his album release called Play. At first, the album only sold a few copies but it would generate success and be used in movies across the world. Eventually, the album would go on to sell over ten million copies world wide. The artist would go on to release many other albums up until the present and one may find some of the songs available as free music downloads or internet screening.
