Metro Station, The Myspace Stars

"We're doing everything we ever wanted to do. We want to be on the radio. We want to play for our fans."

Social networking site MySpace is often touted as the best hangout for aspiring musicians who just want to have their work heard by others. The de facto artist hub, however, does have its fare share of success stories. Just ask any member of Metro Station, whose road to success was paved largely by fans who found them via MySpace. The band's excellent connections were only secondary factors in their Internet-fueled success.

Younger siblings take the credit for helping start the band. Lead guitarist Trace Cyrus and lead vocalist Mason Musso - older brothers to Hannah Montana star Miley and her on-screen best friend Mitchel, respectively - met on the set of the show. The pair clicked and decided to form a band in 2006 with Blake Healy as bassist and keyboardist.

The trio's first project was recording the track Seventeen Forever, which they put up on social network MySpace. It caught the ears of many music lovers online, among them Anthony Improgo, who would become the new group's drummer. Seventeen Forever took the top spot on the MySpace charts for unsigned acts, attracting serious label attention. An intern at Red Ink found their work on MySpace, and they were signed in late 2006.

Despite having had very little touring experience, the band had scored several prime live performances with the likes of Beck and IMA Robot. Their debut album was not long in the works either, with Metro Station coming out in late 2007. Commercial success came in 2008 with the release of the single Shake It, which did well on the charts and quickly earned the band its first platinum RIAA certification for the track.

A brick road has already been set for the band. Their fan base - both digital on MySpace and physical in Los Angeles - is solid and steadily growing. They've worked with the same producers and management teams that helped propel the likes of Boys Like Girls and Fall Out Boy achieve their current status in pop.

Despite being on the road since 2009 to support the Wonder World Tour of Cyrus' half-sister Miley, the band has reportedly finished recording material for a new album. Metro Station fans can expect the new release sometime in early 2010.
