Mexico Raised

Although Marcos Witt was born in San Antonio, Texas in May of 1962, he grew up in Mexico. At the age of two, his mother and father who were missionaries moved their family down to Durango, Mexico. Marcos was the middle child when his family moved out to Mexico to start a missionary outreach in 1964. Unfortunately, the very same year that they moved out their tragedy struck. His father, Jerry Witt died un-expectantly.

It was years before his mother, Nola Witt was able to marry again, but marry she did. She found a friend as well as a lover in Frank Warren. Frank was able to fill in the gap that Jerry had left. He was able to help Nola to build new churches and be a father figure to her three young children. It was not long into their marriage that they Nola gave birth to twin daughters with her new husband.

Starting Out

Marcos began with basic studies at the American School of Durango before eventually studying classical music at the University of Juarez. Once he finished, he moved on to getting his theological studies. He did this in his hometown of San Antonio at their International Bible College.

It was in 1986 that Marcos Witt founded CanZion Producciones once he had recorded his first album, Cancion a Dios. Since then, he has come out with several other albums and projects. With a staggering number of thirty one that are available both on CD as well as cassette he has proven that he is hard working and very talented.

Multi Talented

In 1994, Marcos Witt founded CanZion Institute. It consisted of a school that was dedicated to the preparation of worship leaders as well as music ministers. Over time, he was able to open nearly thirty campuses. They are in ten different countries, from the United States to Europe as well as Latin America.

In addition to all of this, he is also a celebrated author. He has written a total of ten books. One of them, Adoremos was translated to three different languages.

In terms of free mp3 downloads, he is one of the most downloaded Latin Christian musicians. He has played at some of the biggest stadiums in Mexico and has had millions of people see him in concert each year that he has toured. But as he has proven many times over, he is so much more than a very talented singer.

Since 2000, he has participated in well over one hundred leadership conferences as well as seminars. They are organized by LIDERE, which is a company that is solely dedicated to equipping pastors as well as leaders. The following year, he was the recipient of the Award by the People. This was for his brilliant music career. Ritmo Latino was there to present the award to him.

Pastor and Music Success

In the fall of 2002, he was given the Senior Pastor of the Hispanic congregation at one of the largest churches in the United States. Lakewood Church has over forty thousand people as well as a television show that comes on every single week in more than twenty countries. It can also be watched live on the internet each week.

Just two years later, he received a Latin Grammy. The category was in Best Christian Album. His album, Sana Nuestra Tierra which translates to Heal Our Land was the cause of the award. Just two months later, he recorded another album entitled Recordando Otra Vez or Remembering Once Again. Thanks to the agreement that CanZion made with Sony, this caused the album as well as the entire label to be brought into the secular market.

In 2004, Marcos Witt was a recipient of yet another Latin Grammy for Best Christian Album for his album Recordando Otra Vez. Just two years later he once again won for the same category for his album Dios es Bueno or God is Good. In 2006, his album, Alegria, a live album recorded in Chile was awarded a Latin Billboard Award. It won for Best Christian/Gospel Album of the Year.

Current

His most recent recording, Sinfonia del Alma or Sympony from the Soul was released in October of 2007. He dedicated it to his step father who had passed away just one year earlier. Just two months later, in November he was given his fourth Latin Grammy for Best Christian Album for that very album.

Currently he is working on his master’s degree in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
