Amanda Leigh Moore, better known as Mandy Moore, is a singer, songwriter, actress, and fashion designer.   She grew up in Florida and developed an interest in music after seeing the musical, Oklahoma!  She sang in school and was asked to perform the National Anthem at several Florida sporting events.

Getting Started

Amanda Leigh Moore, better known as Mandy Moore, is a singer, songwriter, actress, and fashion designer.   She grew up in Florida and developed an interest in music after seeing the musical, Oklahoma!  She sang in school and was asked to perform the National Anthem at several Florida sporting events.  Eventually, she attracted the attention of the director of artists and repertoire for Epic Records.

Moore toured with the Backstreet Boys in 1999, giving her the public exposure she needed to jumpstart her career.  She released her debut album, So Real, in 1999, to poor reviews.  This did not stop her album from certifying triple platinum, however.  Accused of being just another “pop princess,” Moore joined the ranks of her contemporaries, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Jessica Simpson, at the age of fifteen.

Creating a Niche

Moore's second album, released in 2000, was titled I Wanna Be With You.  The album contained remixes of some of the material from So Real  and only a little new material.  This drew more criticism for lack of originality.  Her 2001 release,  Mandy Moore, was a little more reaching and received better reviews, but was still unable to achieve the success of her first effort.  Her 2003 album, Coverage, received even better reviews, citing a much more mature sound, but sales were still lackluster; Epic Records dropped her due to low sales.

Parallel to her music career was her acting career.  In 2000, Mandy Moore was given a half-hour talk show on MTV, called Mandy.  She started acting in commercials for Neutrogena and played a role in the TV movie, Magic Al and the Mind Factory.  She has had roles in over fifteen movies, and has appeared in episodes of various television series.  In 2002, she won Female Breakthrough Performance from the MTV Movie Awards for her role in A Walk To Remember.  

Here and Now

In 2009, Moore released the album, Amanda Leigh, on Storefront Records.  On the date that pre-ordering opened, her first single from the upcoming album, I Could Break Your Heart Any Day of the Week,was released to iTunes, and made available for mp3 download.  She promoted the album with appearances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.  The album, thus far, has peaked at #12 on Billboard's Top Digital Albums with over 5,000 mp3 and ringtone downloads purchased, and #4 on Top Independent Albums.

On the acting front, Mandy Moore has three movies in production right now:  Love, Wedding, Marriage, Swinging with the Finkels, and Disney's upcoming Tangled, based on the story of Rapunzel.
