There are many talented individuals who are encouraged at a young age to follow their talents and become who they want to be. This was the case with Luis Miguel. He was born in Puerto Rico but lived a very short time with his parents but mostly with his father as his mother disappeared early in his life. His father encouraged him to watch as many movies and listen to as many recordings of Elvis Presley as he could stand, and one day he might be afforded the fame of the great rock n’ roller. Little did he now that he would become one of the worlds greatest Latin singers of all time and his career would begin at a very young age.
Life of Show Business
It is said that Luis Miguel released his first album called Un Sol at the age of eleven years old. The album was produced by the Mexican subsidiary of EMI Records. After this release, he would shortly begin touring the South American countries of Colombia, Venezuela, and Argentina. At the young age of fifteen, Miguel one his first award at the Sanremo Music Festival and would later that year gain acclaim for his duet with rising star Sheena Easton.
Unfortunately early in his career, he found his father to be a poor manager and in 1987 signed with Warner Records and fired his father from being his manager. After, Miguel released another album titled Soy Como Quiero Ser, which proved to be an instant hit. In response, Luis Miguel went back into the studio to produce another album titled Busca Una Mujer, which would contain the Latin American hit La Incondicional.
He continued his dominance in Latin America by producing more hit singles over the next few years and changing his persona form a child start to more of an adult contemporary.
From Child to Man
In 1990, Miguel produced his best selling album yet called 20 Anos, which would sell over six hundred thousand copies in its first week. Looking for more of a target audience, Miguel produced Romance in 1991, which consisted of romantic tunes, would go on to sell over fifteen million copies worldwide and be his best seller to date.
In 1993, Luis released Aries that would win him a Grammy for Best Latin Pop Album and further solidify his fan base. He would not quit and went on to release numerous other albums that would also be smash hits and was consequently the first Latin artist that would gain a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
He has kept up with the times as well. In 2003, Miguel released his first ever pop album called 33. This gained number on the Latin charts and also awarded him more nominations for Latin Grammies as well as United States Grammies. From the release of 33, Miguel sold out shows in almost every country he toured during these couple of years.
