The Beginning
Born Luis Alfonso Rodriguez Lopez-Cepero in 1978, Luis Fonsi is a Puerto Rican singer, songwriter, and actor. When Fonsi was a young boy, his family moved to Florida, and young Fonsi had dreams of joining Latin American boy band, Menudo. This was not to be, but he did attend competitions and auditions in an attempt to pursue his dream.
Realizing that if he wanted a career in performing arts, he would need to do more than just audition for boy bands. He attended Florida State University to study vocal techniques. A music department president, upon hearing him sing, was the connection he needed; he was able to help Luis obtain a recording contract.
The Recording Years
Luis Fonsi recorded his first album in 1998, entitled Comanzere, meaning “I Will Begin.” The album peaked at #27 on the Billboard Latin music charts, and offered four singles, all of which charted. The track, Si Tu Quisieras, peaked in the Top Ten. Over 200,000 copies sold, worldwide. His 2000 follow-up album, Eterno, was even more successful than its predecessor. The album peaked at #6 on the Latin Music charts,and the single, Imaginame Sin Ti went to #1. Also during 2000, Fonsi recorded a duet with Christina Aguillera for her Spanish language album, Mi Reflejo.
He released five more albums from 2000 to 2010, each increasing in commercial success, until the 2009 album, Palabras del Silencio, which sold 1.5 million copies, certifying platinum in the US and gold in Mexico and Argentina. The album was nominated for a number of awards from a number of organizations. Luis Fonsi won the 2009 Your World Award from the Billboard Latin Music Awards and eleven awards from the 2009 Premios Juventud.
Here and Now
Fonsi is currently married to Puerto Rican actress, Adamari Lopez Torres. Luis Fonsi, himself, has had some acting in his career. In 2004, he played a recurring role in the Mexican soap opera, Corazones as limite, and in 2002, he had a bit role on the Nickelodeon series, Taina. He has made appearances as himself twenty television shows and advertisements. When asked, he stated that he and his wife do not think about sharing projects. They both just go to work every day.
Starting in 2003, all of Fonsi's albums were released on CD and in digital form as well. Msuic from his prior albums have been re-released on -line as well. Therefore, all of his music is available to purchase on line for mp3 dowload or for streaming.

In 2005, former Menudo member, Ray Reyes invited Fonsi to join them on stage at a concert at San Juan's Roberto Clemente Coliseum. The moment would later be referred to as Fonsi's moment as Menudo.
