Lloyd – RnB Player!

The Early Years

Lloyd was born in New Orleans as Lloyd Polite (Jr.) By the time he reached the age of 12 he had already started working in a band called N-Toon The band actually went on to win the kids channel Nickelodeon’s show Double Dare 2000. N-Toon was signed to DreamWorks Records in the same year. They even recorded an album together

As a solo artist he had to wait before he got his first turn to sign with Irv Gotti who owns The Inc records as part of the Def Jam records.

Solo Start

In 2004, he started recording his first single called “Southside” which featured a duet with his label mate Ashanti. The song charted at No.24 on the mainstream US singles chart and No.13 on the RnB charts. It was an impressive beginning for the youngster. The second single was “Hey Young Girls” which was not as successful as the first single. It did not chart on the US hot 100 singles chart and only managed to peak at No.61 on the RnB charts. The first album was released by the summer of 2004 and it did debut as high as No.11 on the US Billboard charts and No.3 on the RnB charts but failed to be a commercial hit.

The Next 2

Lloyd appeared in Ja Rule’s song “Caught Up”. After a relatively low period in which he did collaborate with other artists; he spent most of his time recording the follow-up album. Due to the commercial failure of the first album there was pressure from the music label as well. In 2006 he released his second single “You” which was a hit and it featured Lil Wayne. The single cracked the top 10 US singles chart at no.9. The second album was released in 2007 called “Streets of Love”. The album also featured the second single “Get it Shawty” which also gained in popularity and reached No.4 on the RnB charts. The album was received a lot better than its predecessor and peaked at No.2 on the US album charts. It was certified Gold

In 2008, he released his third album titled “Lessons in Love”. The album featured the single “Girls Around the World” collaboration with Lil Wayne but with not the same commercial success. It only managed to reach No.64 on the US singles chart. The second single “Year of the Loves” was a commercial flop; it did not chart on the US singles chart and only managed to reach No.101 on the RnB charts

The album itself was a commercial disappointment despite it being his first No.1 RnB album it managed to reach only No.7 on the US album charts.
