Jacksonville Rocks

Getting their start in the city of Jacksonville, Florida, Limp Bizkit brought their new sound of rock n' roll to the music world with a new metal style that grinded through charts and music records with a hurricane like vengeance. The band would go on to win a number of awards and break the fastest selling rock n' roll album record passing the Seattle group Pearl Jam with over one million copies selling in one week. The group would create a spot in rock n' roll history that has yet to be rivaled in the metal world as of yet, and continue to excite their fans with every moment the band plays the state.

Humble Beginning

Formed in 1995 in Jacksonville, the members Fred Durst and Sam Rivers joined with drummer John Otto got together and began to form what would be one of contemporary rock n' rolls fastest emerging groups. After bringing in the guitarist Rob Waters, the four original members formed under the name Limp Bizkit. The group came out with its first four song demo called Mental Aquaducts. After the first demo tracks were out, guitarist Rob Waters ended up leaving the band to pursue other alternatives and Wes Borland was recruited for the job.

The group began playing shows in local bars and clubs around the Jacksonville area. Later the band recorded another demo album, which included songs such as Counterfeit and Stalemate. Being friends with the band Korn, Durst was able to get the demo to them and this created one of the groups breakthroughs. The group gained the attention of Korn's producer, Ross Robinson who said he had intentions of taking the group under his wing.

During this time Limp Bizkit, had also managed to meet Garbage member Jordan Schur who also wanted to sign the group under his own record label Flip Records. A lot was happening as the band was also booked to tour with the popular rock group Deftones as well as House of Pain.

First Cuts

Limp Bizkit came out with their first studio album Three Dollar Bill, Yall$ in 1997 under the record label Interscope. Although the album did do well over time due to their tour and promotion of it, it got little attention at its first release. With their participation in Ozzfest and a number of other rock festivals that the band toured with, the album would eventually see number 22 on the Billboard Hot 200. During the tour the band opened the stage inside of an oversized toilet bowl from which they emerged.

Durst would narrate an explicit message to his audience as they emerged and although they were little known, this stage technique eventually gaine them notoriety. One of their covers, a song by George Michael called Faith, would go on to appear on the movie soundtrack Very Bad Things. Another advertising gimmicks of sorts came when Durst noticed that their shows consisted mostly of younger aged males. This prompted him to come out with the Ladies Night In Cambodia tour in which ladies were admitted to the shows on this tour for free.

Gathering Steam

Their second album was released in 1999 and almost instantly it was a hit. The album, called Significant Other made its debut at number 1 on the Billboard 200 and was their first album to gain positive reviews by the critics. The single Nookie became a radio hit, which helped the album sell over eight hundred thousand copies in its first week of release. The band was joined by Method Man, a notorious rapper in the hip hop community, for the song N 2 Gether Now.

Don't Break Stuff

The band played at the rock n' roll event of the decade Woodstock 99'. A concert that was supposed to represent the event held in the 1960's, Limp Bizkit however, did not exactly bring the love or the peace. During their performance of the track Break Stuff, the audience of over two hundred thousand people began violently lashing out from the suggestive lyrics. From there mass chaos ensued as the concert goers began ripping apart pieces of the stage and tearing up anything in sight. Many fights reportedly broke out along with some rumored video footage of sexual assault. Durt made the statement that he did not plan for this to happen although some have said that his suggestions during the song coupled with its controversial lyrics enraged the audience causing the mayhem.

Years to Come

With many internal problems, the band continued to release albums although in a much haphazard manner. They would eventually reunite in May of 2009 to play together as original members since their inception. In an interview with Kerrang in November of 2009, Durst said their next album would be called Gold Cobra and would be released in the early months of 2010.
