At the shows, right after we get off stage, we cool off for about fifteen minutes and then we go sign autographs for about an hour and half every night and get to talk to everybody. To me, that's probably the best part -- to get to hear people's stories and hear how your music has impacted them.
The Beginning
Jason Wade, Rick Wulstenhulme, Jr., Bryce Soderberg, and Ben Carey make up the band, Lifehouse. The band was recorded their first album in 2000. Titled No Name Face, which peaked at #1 in the United Kingdom and #6 in the United States. Its hit single, Hanging by a Moment was named Billboard's Song of the Year in 2001. Album sales certified at double platinum.
The release, Everything, was used in the pilot and the first-season finale of the television show, Smallville. The relationship would continue over the years between the band and the series. Somewhere In Between, another release from No Name Face, was featured in an episode of the show, Falcon Beach.
Continuing the Success
Lifehouse released Stanley Climbfall in 2002, which enjoyed moderate success, but was overshadowed by the residual success of their first album. In 2005, they released the album, Lifehouse, which stood on its own, and certified gold in sales. The single, Spirit, was featured on several television series episodes, including Smallville, Cold Case, Boston Legal, Gavin & Stacey, The 4400, Everwood, and Medium.
Their 2007 album, Who We Are, certified gold in sales; it peaked at #1 in the UK and #14 in the US. Lifehouse went on tour to promote the album, joined by the Goo Goo Dolls and Colbie Caillat. Lifehouse followed this tour with a world headlining tour of their own. The band released a B-side single, If This is Good-bye, which was featured on the album, Bratz: The Motion Picture Soundtrack.
What's Next
The band's singles have enjoyed fame and airplay as much at the hands of the television and movie industries as through radio play. Their single, Broken, was featured in the iTunes trailer for the film, The Time Traveler's Wife in 2009; the song also appeared on episodes of Grey's Anatomy, Criminal Minds, General Hospital, and The Hills. Appearances of this single and others have boosted digital sales, as viewers seek downloads of the music they hear while watching television.
The band's newest album, Smoke and Mirrors, is due to be released in 2010. The single, From Where You Are, will appear on this album. The single was released in 2007 to appear on an Allstate Teen Driving Commercial. The demand for mp3 downloads of the single and unsolicited airplay drove the song to reach #61 on the Billboard charts.
