Rimes, has successfully transformed from a country artist to mainstream pop success. Her albums have sold over 40 million copies worldwide. She holds several accolades like being the youngest person ever to win a Grammy and the first country artist to win Grammy for Best New Artist.


LeAnn Rimes has also made a name of herself by touring American army basis around the word and entertaining foreign posted troops. Her prolific nature has seen her release 10 studio albums and over 4 singles since her debut in 1996. LeAnn Rimes is a superstar performer who has even played a concert at the East Room in the White House for President George W Bush. As a side project she has acted in TV-movies as an area which she might want to make a future career as well.


Beginning with a Bang!


Born in Mississippi to her a loving and doting family LeAnn started to sing at the age of 4 and by 5 she was already participating in local contests. As youngster she made several appearances on Country Show in Arlington which gave her widespread attention. She was a true child genius and even performed The Star Spangled at the Dallas Cowboy football stadium.


In 1996 she signed with Curb records and recorded her debut country album "Blue". Released in 1996, "Blue" sold an impressive 123,000 copies in the first week and it peaked all the way to No.1 on the US country charts. People started comparing her to the legendary Patsy Cline and it was her style which has kept the Cline legacy alive. The album gained nation wide attention and reached no.3 on the US mainstream charts eventually selling 4 million copies. The album has sold an additional 8 million world wide. The first album was huge success and LeAnn Rimes at age 15 was a superstar.


By 1997, there was massive interest in her work and pressure to release a new album. She came up with a list of cover versions titled "Unchained Melody: The Early Years". It included covers of Dolly Parton and the Beatles. The album was another huge hit and her vocals were rendition of popular songs was appreciated. The album was certified platinum in the US and has sold 2 million copies.


The Pop Crossover


LeAnn Rimes was very interested to gain mainstream Pop success and with that intent she recorded her third album "You Light Up my Life: Inspirational Song". The title single and "The Rose" were sounding Country Pop and the transformation had begun. The video was slick in its production and carefully directed bringing her to the mainstream. The album was a blockbuster selling 4 million copies. The single "How Do I Live" was another massive hit.



Rimes went on an international tour which was another major success. She was fast becoming Pop's next big thing. Her third album "Sittin' on Top of the World" was a bona-fide pop record. The production and recording was now more than obvious for the target audience. As with all her other albums, it featured the iconic Prince song "Purple Rain". The album debut at No.3 and has been certified platinum.


She was only 18 years old and had already experienced global fame and commercial success. The fourth self-titled album was released in 1999 which was a little "return to roots" kind of an album. The sound was a bit more country music and it included several Patsy Cline classics. The album was certified platinum and there was a slight dip in her commercial appeal even though the album reached No.1 on the US country charts

The 2000 Decade


After a break and short tours, she released "I Need You" aimed more directly at the pop market. But due to the over production it has been criticized as one of her weakest effort. The album recording had started a very traumatic personal life where she filed as lawsuit against her own father and manager. She would often claim that the album is actually songs taken from studio outtakes and her least favorite. Even though it reached Gold status largely due to the single "Can't Fight the Moonlight" for the Coyote Ugly soundtrack.


In 2002, she released "Twisted Angel" where the themes were darker and more personal. Her first album not to be produced by her father it was certified Gold. By 22, she released her first Greatest Hits package capturing a remarkable career at such short age.


In 2005, "This Woman" was another critically and commercial disappointed. Her last two albums "Whatever we Wanna" and "Family" has seen Rimes experiment with more rock sounds but to very little commercial success.


She has announced plans to release a new album in 2010
