Lady Antebellum - Chemistry at Its Best

From the first time the three singer-songwriters sat down together in 2006 to see what would happen, chemistry sparked and Lady Antebellum was born. Lady Antebellum - The Roots

Hillary Scott was born on April fool's day in 1986 to Grammy Award winning American country singer, Linda Kaye Davis and musician Lang Scott in Nashville, Tennessee. Until she performed at Opryland with her mother when she was 16 years old Hillary never entertained the idea of being a singer. That changed after her first stage performance. Going straight from high school graduation to working with songwriter and singer Victoria Shaw Hillary had received a little attention on the Nashville music radar by 2006.

Charles Kelley and David Haywood both hail from Augusta, Georgia. They first met in middle school and later found themselves attending the University of Georgia pursuing degrees in finance. Although they wrote songs together during their college years both went on to other careers until 2005. Charles, living in North Carolina, decided in 2005 to make the move to Nashville, Tennessee to make a serious effort to break into the country music business.

Dave Harwood had worked as an accountant for a year and traveled internationally with his job but was already dreading spending the rest of his life as a businessman. Since childhood music had been his real passion. The call from Charles to join him in Nashville was welcomed and he made the move to Nashville in March 2006.

The Ascent

Scott had heard and seen Charles Kelley's music demo's on MySpace so when she saw him at a Nashville nightspot she immediately introduced herself to him and started talking songwriting. Kelley admits he initially didn't have any idea how talented Scott was but he invited her to join Harwood and himself for a writing session. The summer of 2006 was spent with the three of them together, writing songs until the small hours of the morning, learning how they fit together as a musical unit and the fresh sound of Lady Antebellum evolved.

From the day they posted their first demo's on MySpace Lady Antebellum began building a huge fanbase. Within months of their first live performances in local venue's the group found themselves opening for Carrie Underwood, Josh Turner and other top country performers at the Grand Ole Opry. Capital Nashville signed them in 2007 and their first single, Love Don't Live Here, was released that September. April 15th, 2008 was the release date of the Lady Antebellum album which made history as the first album by a new group to reach Number One under Top Country Albums category of the Billboard charts and went platinum in October 2009. Lady A was signed to open for Marina McBride's 2008 Waking Up Laughing Tour and their second single, Lookin' for a Good Time, hit the #11 spot in December. Top New Duo/Group and New Artist of the Year 2008 awards were won from the Academy of Country Music and CMA followed by CMA awards in 2009 for Vocal Group of the Year and Single of the Year for I Run to You which had been released in January.

Lady Antebellum's fourth single, Need You Now, went Number One on November 28, 2009. The song is the lead track on their second studio album which is expected to come out in January 2010. The public loves them and they've only just begun.
