In 1986, Stefani Germanotta would be born in the busy city of New York to her Italian American parents Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Germanotta. She would begin playing piano at the age of four where she would use her ear to pick out tunes and melodies and would write her first song when she was thirteen. At the age of fourteen, she was making her debut in piano bars and nightclubs throughout the city, which would be assisted from her talents displayed earlier in her schooling.
She would be active in the many school musicals and plays and was said to be a very dedicated young female who was exceptional at what she would under take, even at such a young age. Said to be a very popular student, she would make singing a top priority and would eventually bring her exhuberant style to the world of popular culture as one of the most celebrated artists of the present.
A Lady No More
At the young age of seventeen years old, Lady Gaga would enter the Tisch School of the Arts, where she would capitalize on her songwriting and singing abilities. After only her first year, she had felt that she was self taught in the aspect of arts and would withdraw from the school to pursue her talents as a singer. At nineteen, she would go on to sign a recording contract with Def Jam Records but would eventually be dropped after only three months due to her non production.
She would go on to start the Stefani Germanotta Band and would record an EP all the while starting to gain regular appearances at many clubs in the greater New York and New Jersey area. During this time, she began to experiment with the drug culture and would meet up with producer Rob Fusari. She would work with Fusari for a while and be assisted by him in coming up with her stage name of Lady Gaga, whom she is still known today.
She teamed up with another performer named Lady Starlight and the duo began performing club scenes again in the downtown area of New York where the two were called one of the greatest pop burlesque acts of the time. The two would be invited to sing at the 2007 Lollapalooza festival in August of that year and she would begin to gather a string of followers other than those in the New York city area.
During this time, she was starting to incorporate excerpts of different musicians into her act such as David Bowie and other 1970's and 1980's legends. She would go on to sign with Streamline Records and her career began to take off.
Lady of Luck
She would continue performing in the city but had yet to make any albums based on her solo career. She also began writing music for pop artists of the time in order to help her gain exposure to her music peers. She would begin work on her first full length studio album and release the singles Just Dance and Poker Face, both of which would go on to become international hit singles. Eventually, in 2008 Lady Gaga would move to Los Angeles to further her exposure in the music industry and release her debut album called Fame.
The album would receive a luke warm reception from critics although it would not propel her into the spotlight immediately in the United States. However, the album would go to number one in many European countries and make it in the top five albums in the United States and Australia. She would also go on to win the Grammy Award under the category of Album of the Year. She would pursue a tour with other groups of the day but would eventually create her own headlining tour called The Fame Ball that began in early spring of 2009.
