"Suffering darkness in my eyes against the light of Rome, I see the reflection of the ghost that I've become, Waiting behind the windows, I resign to be alone, I want to feel alone and lost in this solitude"

From Four to Six
When the group began in 1994 there were four members. One member dropped out and he was replaced by two others. Eventually another member was added in order to balance out the vocals. The band has had six members for some time, as of Jan of 2010 the members are; Cristina Scabbia, vocals, Andrea Ferro, vocals, Cristiano Migliore, guitar, Marco Biazzi, guitar, Marco Zelati, bass and keyboards, Cristiano Mozzati, Drums and percussion.
Expanding Their Horizons
Even though Lacuna Coil is from Italy they sing most of their lyrics in English. Even with this, they were widely unheard of in the United States. In 2003 and 2004 they toured in the U.S. with the main attraction being "Ozzfest". Ozzfest attracts many different types of musicians. The Goth Metal style of Lacuna Coil was greatly received by the audience. Because of their experience touring in the United States, Lacuna Coil went to work on a new album. "Comalies" was not only a success for the band but also for the record label. It was the best selling release for the record label, ever. With the release of "Comalies" Lacuna Coil also had a song, "Swamped" that released with the movie "Resident Evil: Apocalypse". With the tour and the release of the movie in close succession their American audience was expanded and their worldwide popularity was increased.
Their Style; Defined
Lacuna Coil uses a male/female voices to create a sound that is all of their own. Ferro and Scabbia make a great pair. Her lilting clear voice and his scratchy, deep growling voice portray good and evil, light and dark. They also even further define their style with the types of instruments that they use. They use a variety of guitars fitted with keyboards and other instruments in order to create a sound that is uniquely theirs and theirs alone.
It is a style that they enjoy and love to perform. In order to keep doing it, they would need to love it, as their style of music is not popular in Italy. The main type of recognition that they have received is from the underground music scene in their country.
Milestones
Lacuna Coil created their first EP album in 1998, it was a six song album. In 1999 they released their first full length album called "In A Reverie". The album was finished with a new guitarist and a new percussionist. The new harder sound on the album made the band even more popular in the metal music scene.
In 2000 they released a five song EP which further defined their style. They also added their sixth member to the group. Marco Biazzi. 2001 found the group releasing another album called "Unleashed Memories". This album was very popular with their Goth fans because of the slow, heavy feeling that was infused into the music.
In 2002 the ever popular "Comalies" was produced and released within two months time. This album was very popular internationally and showed that the band knew how to stay true to their roots as well as please a wider range of fans.
By the time "Karmacode" was released in 2006 their fans were more than ready for more. They continued to wow their fans and attract new ones with their continuingly changing sound.
Staying Together
The Band continues to make albums and explore different music. They strive to keep the same Goth metal style while working in new influences into the music. Their 2008 Album has some Arabic Flair, but keeps their original sense of style. They also headlined a tour in the U.S. in 2009. There are no signs that the group will be disbanding any time soon.
