La Apuesta

La Apuesta is the hottest group Duranguense group in Mexico.

The Beginning

Founded in 1993, La Apuesta was formed in the Sierra Juarez region of Oaxaca, Mexico.  The founding members were brothers Enrique Casaos Cano (guitar, vocals) and Juan Casaos Cano (vocals), who were joined by Julio Cesar Estrada Vega (keyboard), Luis Felipe Muntalvo (drums), Antonio Vasquez (guitar, vocals), and Luciano Amaro (keyboards, accordian).  Their debut album was entitled La Leyenda del Duende, meaning The Legend of the Hobgoblin.

La Apuesta specializes in Duranguense music, which is popular in Mexico and among  the Mexican American population.  It is similar to banda or norteno. The emphasis on synthesizers sets Duranguense music apart from other Mexican or Latin genres.  Additionally, the genre includes heavy percussion, primarily bass drum and rolling snares.

Straight to the Top

La Apuesta has enjoyed success from the beginning.  Critics have referred to them as the hottest  Duranguense group in Mexico.  A prolific band, they have recorded and released multiple albums. Not all of them put singles on the charts, but they have a strong and loyal fan base who not only keep record sales high, but also frequent the band's website and other music websites for video streaming and to download music.  La Apuesta has many singles available in mp3 format.

Their 2007 album,  10 Exitos de Oro contained ten covers on Mexican musical hits.  The album was warmly received and was a commercial success.  In 2008, the band recorded No Me Dejes De Amar, which reached #12 on Billboards Latin songs, and #6 on Mexican Regional Songs.  The album spent six weeks on the charts.  These albums, along with hits like Por Ti, Cada Dia Mas, Abrázame y Perdoname, and Procuro Olvidarte have made them wildly popular among the Latin and Latin American listeners.

Enjoying the Fame

La Apuesta is currently on tour, performing across Mexico and the United States. They have played to sell-out crowds in halls that seat over 40,000 people in Mexico, and enjoy similar popularity in the southwest portion of the United States and in Califormia.  On April 17, they will be the special guests for Ramon Ayala at his concert at Gibson Amphitheater in Universal City, California.  Ayala is a famous bajo sexto player from the Rio Grande Valley, in Texas.

The plan for La Apuesta is to keep doing what they are doing.  Another album is in the works, and the band is setting up tour dates for the end of the year.  The chemistry among the band members has been extremely positive, and they are prepared to go on working together for a long time to come.  Their music can be found on line for digital download or in physical cd form.
